Position Description:

Workers in this position operate radio and pendant controlled overhead cranes in the Material Stores Area and factory. They make single point and multiple point lifts and movement of large, long wing skins and spars into tight, difficult positions. Work requires a high degree of eye/hand coordination and depth perception, while simultaneously making multiple visual and hand operations. Employment in this position also requires handling, standing, walking, twisting at the waist, lifting and carrying less than 10 pounds, lifting and carrying 10-35 pounds, lifting more than 35 pounds, reaching, rotation of head/neck, contact with metals, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for head/face/eye, hand/arm, ears and feet.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*

Obtain work assignment from various sources or other accepted shop procedure. Inspect condition of crane, Overhead Material Handling Equipment and rigging to be used to perform work assignment.

*

Report any malfunctioning or unsafe equipment.

*

Check parts in work by previous shift to determine progress on a job, as required. Access on line computer systems to input work order requirements and initiate a pick list, for issuing material to shop.

*

Obtain/receive raw material/vendor parts into MSA, unloading rail cars and/or truck trailers, placing into storage, as required. Issue raw material to various shop sites recording required information on work order and stamp appropriate block, as required. Measure spar or extrusion raw material, with a certified tape measure and cut to accurate length, using a floor mounted band saw. Issue item to chain line/mill, as required.

Rig work piece for movement, using appropriate equipment and rigging, as required. Attach rigging to hooks on OMHE and to work piece at different intervals, using various devices, as required.

*

Calculate safe load requirements prior to lift and then balance load at beginning of lift and during movement, as required.

*

Plan and coordinate movement of material/part with other crane operators and shop personnel, to minimize interruption of production work and optimize safety of crane operation.

*

Perform lift/move, using radio control or pendant control cranes, sounding warning horn and ensuring path of travel is clear and safe.

*

Work with help of crew on floor (as necessary).

*

Perform crystal changes on radio control box, when using multiple bridges and cranes to complete required material/part move.

*

Use hand and/or audible signals, to guide movement of cranes and their loads, as required. Perform various operations with material/part being moved, as required. Deliver material/part to various shop areas, lowering item into place and unhooking, as required.

*

Work with MPRF's in the Kitting area, to hook up, move and position wing spars/wing skins into specialized kitting module transportation trailers and/or shop areas, as required.

*

Perform banding of raw material/parts to pallets, using 3/8"" or 1"" steel banding machine and move, using electric stacker, as required.

*

Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), during handling/pushing of raw material and/or parts into final position.

*

Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner, per Material Safety Data Sheets, as required.

*

Assist new employees, to become familiar with equipment and procedures.

*

Contact fellow workers, supervisor or shop personnel when assistance is needed or a problem arises.

Qualifications

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.
