Tornado Maintenance Adviser for IM Officer

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons. The position holder is responsible to the Maintenance Support Manager for all shop and aircraft issues relating to the Tornado aircraft. This responsibility primarily includes the management of production activity in support of the Tornado operation, which therefore extends to the maintenance facilities within Intermediate Maintenance.


To be effective, the general responsibilities are broken down into the following activities:

  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with the RSAF, MoDSAP and BAE Systems Propulsion Integrated Support personnel, such that the Customer sees the job holder as a valuable asset in obtaining solutions to in-service problems and optimizing performance to improve and sustain operational capability.

  • Maintain effective production of Intermediate maintenance in support of the Tornado operation.

  • Liaise with the aircraft (BAE Systems) Design Authorities, Propulsion Integrated Support (BAE Systems) and MoDSAP, ensuring Customer queries and concerns receive prompt attention, monitoring the process to ensure the response meets the requirements and expectations of the Customer.

  • Working under a high degree of autonomy to resolve issues that may fall outside normal technical processes and procedures.

  • Collate information to monitor the engineering performance of the engine and with experience and judgement, identify any potential problems that can be resolved effectively.

  • Compile and provide statistics in support of the Base Safety FOD prevention program.

  • Forecasting of the spares requirement for the next one to five (1-5) years, which provides the foundation data for the preparation of a Costed Proposal for senior management approval.

  • Management of and adherence to the Customer input programme in accordance with operational, technical and contractual requirements.

  • General management, implementation and initiation of support activities including, but not limited to Materiel Deficiency Report (MDR) investigations, Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO), Technical Publication Amendments, Technical Instructions, etc.

  • Facilitate any KAAB Contractor Working Parties (CWP) that require close Customer co-operation in order to ensure success.

  • Manage the Company Health and Safety Policy within the workplace.



  •  Must have completed a recognized course of training in aircraft engineering or a related technology discipline at a military or civilian school of technical training or have completed an appropriate apprenticeship.

  • Must have extensive experience in a military aircraft engineering and / or aircraft maintenance discipline with related experience on Tornado aircraft.

  • Have a sound understanding of the application and governance of Design and Engineering Authorities.

  • IT literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office software suite of programs; be proficient in producing MS Word based documents and MS PowerPoint presentations and analysing data using MS Excel Knowledge of BAE Systems operations in KSA and the UK are essential to ensure a coordinated approach.

  • Strong communication skills are essential - skills need to cover report writing, visual presentations and verbal briefings, capable of dealing with complex technical issues.

  • Confident and assured in situations involving Customers and their representatives, sub-contractors and partners.

  • Significant understanding of the business of BAE SYSTEMS Saudi Arabia, and its integration with other BAE Systems business units.

  • Able to identify, assess, analyse and manage risk in relation to in-service Airworthiness issues.

  • Able to communicate at all levels effectively, with strong interpersonal skills in order to manage and culture relationships with employees, external independent authorities and Customers.

  • When required act as counter-part trainer for the Intermediate Flight Commander and their designated deputy.
