UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.
We are currently looking a tool designer to manage high complexity design and planning of layouts for assembly and product/material handling fixtures and equipment. Adapt machine and equipment designs to factory/supplier production conditions and capabilities. Understand and plan for the sequencing of operations and processes associated with the fabrication of tools and equipment, and other functions that affect product performance. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and maintain proper tool configuration and control is expected. Work closely with Manufacturing and Test Engineering, and the Program Design staff to obtain inputs to accurately define tool and gage requirements needed to complete quality designs in a timely fashion. Candidates must be capable of producing finished drawings from sketches, lower-tier drawings and electronic images, and have the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in order to meet program schedules.
A high level of proficiency and proven experience with modeling and/or design packages such as ProE, Creo, or CAD is required, and checking experience is beneficial. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, machining concepts and special processing, such as welding and brazing, is desirable. Strong knowledge of Continuous Improvement methods (ACE or the DMAIC model) and demonstrated use of their tools is desirable. Experience with a MRP system is a plus. The ideal candidate will be creative, energetic, cooperative, flexible, possess a positive attitude, and be eager to apply and expand their design skills in a highly ethical and environmentally conscious manner.
Experience Preferred: 7-10 years of experience working on the manufacture of complex mechanical systems is desired
BS/AS Degree in Engineering or technical discipline is desired, HS Diploma with equivalent years of experience will be considered.
