This role will focus on implementing component and system testing during engineering development/qualification/certification and field unit service support of aircraft cargo systems.
Support engineering staff with failure investigations to resolve system performance issues encountered during qualification testing and to address customer field service issues.
Supervise technicians and provide technical direction needed with test equipment, instrumentation and data acquisition process.
Engage with internal and external customers for the purchase, fabrication and installation of test equipment.
Manage the calibration, preventive maintenance and repair of test instrumentation and equipment.
Coordinate with EH&S to be in compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements for testing and test equipment.
Set up and maintain data acquisition systems in house and, when required, at 3rd party testing facilities.
Interpretation/analysis of customer test requirements and subsequent cost estimates to support an appropriate test program.
Participation on program Integrated Product Development teams, review drawings and concepts.
Work closely with the design engineering team to identify, execute, and document all testing required for certification and/or qualification of aircraft evacuation system products to customer and regulatory requirements.
Develop test procedures based on requirements document for electromechanical, mechanical, and electrical systems.
Design and acquisition of test fixtures.
Execution of testing at both in-house and 3rd party facilities
Support engineering management and business development with creation of proposals for new business opportunities by identifying and estimating testing related tasks.
Provide guidance and purchase recommendations on latest testing and data acquisition technology. Goal should be to get accurate test data while minimizing interaction with product.
Qualification: A minimum of 2 years in engineering hardware design and testing with aircraft related qualification and/or certification testing
Working knowledge about standard aerospace test methods, and aerospace test equipment, (example: vibration, constant acceleration, etc.)
Estimating, designing and implementation of new test systems and/or equipment.
Developing and enhancing test plans and creating standard work procedures.
Qualification related testing that involved structural and environmental requirements.
Selecting and purchasing equipment, components and general manufacturing test tools in line with the product/process technological requirements.
Working knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition systems utilizing LabVIEW desired.
Must be a US Person (US Citizen, Permanent Resident).
Ability to understand and work with mechanical, electromechanical, and electrical/electronic assemblies of varying complexity
Knowledge and ability to setup and use various test equipment including environmental chambers and vibration shakers.
Ability to communicate fluently both verbally and written with command of MS Office skills
Skills Preferred :
RTCA DO 160 environmental testing, etc.
CAD experience, Unigraphics NX5 (Preferred)
Various software programming skills including LabVIEW, Visual Basic, IEEE-488, and PLC logic (Preferred)
Experience in cargo loading operations (Preferred)
Forklift and First Aid certifications (Preferred)
Education: BA/BS degree w/6–10+ years experience
MA/MS degree w/4–7+ years experience
PhD degree w/2–4+ years experience
