Under minimal direction, this position supports the preparation and revision of Spirit Airlines Technical Publications and Original Equipment Manufacture Manuals as required. The Technical Writer I works under high-pressure to meet deadlines that safeguard a safe and compliant operation. This role adds value to the company by ensuring that the observance of all areas of regulatory oversight regarding manual administration is timely and responsive. Expected to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with established operating practices and procedures.


Development and Quality Assurance: Ensure the development of a current and accurate Spirit Airlines Manual Set by adhering to the Technical Publications Revision Process Guidelines and Quality Assurance Checks.

Assist in the development of supporting materials (illustrations, flow diagrams, tables, etc.)

Proactively investigate and implement best ways to improve and produce digital documentation.

Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction.

Documentation, Process Analysis, Tracking and Trending: Compile daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly activity reports and periodic project reports.Provide documented, well thought out solution alternatives and recommendations on issues and process improvements.

Process Improvement: Identify trends and communicate suggestions for improving efficiency and effectiveness of existing Publications processes to ensure accuracy, usability and currency of documentation. Create professional documentation of processes and procedures for use by all team members. Update documentation when changes are made.

Format and Content Grammatical Accuracy: Provide accurate information in company manuals and technical documents by ensuring correct content and format for with correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Forms Management: Manage effective, efficient development of Spirit Airlines Forms to include the timely distribution to the Forms Library.

Revision Compliance: Maintain compliance as mandated by FAA. Organize material and complete change request according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology. Proactive organization, identification and management of interfaced content for re-use. Ensure baseline, original, current, editions of manuals and documents are maintained and revised on a secure network drive/Tech Rev Manager for version control, audit, and archive purposes.

Error Recognition and Recovery: Investigate and resolve problem areas through self-discovery and by interfacing with various engineering, operations, and maintenance personnel. Perform the self and peer edit of documents to ensure format, content, flow and integrity are in conformance with internal quality management system and customer requirements. Responsible to provide quality assurance checklists for all document deliverables.
Identify and correct problem areas as they arise.

Document Project Management: Duties also include supporting the efforts of Subject Matter Experts to complete projects in accordance with established deadlines with strict adherence to quality standards.

The timely incorporation of Document Management Request (DMRs) as submitted by SMEs through OTRS/Tech Rev Manager to support revision cycle milestones and deadlines.

Updating OTRS/Tech Rev Manager and closing requests accordingly.

Tracking and monitoring the flow of all documents from inception to distribution of final copies.

Work with the user community and customer-facing groups to research information needs.

Interface with technical professionals in the writing, editing, and publication of various types of documents such as technical manuals, reports, engineering orders, and training material etc.

Proactively participate regularly in department and company-wide proposal writing projects.

Process Orientation: Focuses on details with a drive for perfection in design, development and execution. Enthusiastic about managing and measuring process improvements and gaps. Highly organized and disciplined. Can manage multiple projects at once. Readiness to follow instructions and adapt to on-the-fly requests.

Education/Experience Requirements - Required

Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communications or equivalent required or formal training equivalent to the completion of a discipline and three or more years of progressive experience in Aviation or other Technical Communication discipline.

Masters degree in English, Technical Communications or equivalent required or formal training equivalent to the completion of a discipline and three or more years of progressive experience in Aviation or other Technical Communication discipline. May substitute equivalent professional experience in lieu of education/training.

Adobe Framemaker Certified.

XML Document Authoring Certified

Ability to work both independently and lead in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel may be required.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate. (e.g., emergencies, changes in workload, rush jobs or technical developments.) Must be willing to work non-traditional business hours from time to time as the job requirements dictate. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, tactical workplace with shifting priorities and understand how to get work done and meet deadlines in this environment.
