The Supplier Operations Support (SOS) Manager is responsible for leading the intervention, performance turnaround and operational stabilization of critical suppliers in the North American supply chain of United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) Aerostructures. Each manager leads one or more multi-functional teams of UTAS Aerostructures employees and contractors through direct and indirect reporting relationships. The SOS team drives all necessary activities to mitigate immediate short-term performance gaps in delivery and quality, as well as longer-term risks and issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•Perform operations assessment to identify key areas of improvement
•Hire the appropriate skills for the on-site multi-function team at each supplier, then manage and develop the team
•Develop WIP/SWIP trackers to be used between UTAS buyers, SOS team, and supplier to eliminate all delinquencies
•Develop and/or improve supplier metrics so they drive the desired outcomes for delivery and quality
•Assist supplier in developing RCCA for issues like quality escapes, non-conformances and significant deviations from the plan
•Work with UTAS buyers to ensure that demand is accurate and level loaded
•Act as a conduit between the supplier and UTAS buyers when purchase order adjustments need to be made
•Participate in and follow up on open actions for Production Readiness Assessments
•Guide supplier through development of a recovery and continuous improvement plan
•Track and communicate the ongoing performance of the supplier to the established metrics
•Prioritize daily activities, promoting real time problem resolution and escalating issues that require additional help
•Advocate manufacturing and business processes improvements that will help supplier achieve required demonstrated output
•Standardize best practices across all production lines with UTAS product at the supplier
•Regulate activities and initiatives between the supplier and internal / external customers to maintain focus on top priorities
•Assist supplier in developing presentations for UTAS supply chain and program leaders
•Periodically present supplier situation in UTAS-only meetings, as well as reviews with customers (e.g. Airbus, Boeing, etc.)
•Champion lean transformation at the supplier through the use of continuous improvement tools and processes
•Help UTAS and supplier manage change incorporation
•Drive long term actions that position the supplier to return to acceptable operational performance
•Ensure supplier is capable of re-assuming operations management entirely with their own resources
•Maintain compliance to all regulations, laws and management systems requirements
•Maintain alignment with commercial agreements between the supplier and the business unit
•Position is based in Chula Vista, CA; travel requirements range from 20 - 80% depending upon supplier package(s)

•Eight (8) years combined experience in Operations and Supply Chain, including three (3) years in a management role with direct reports
•BA/BS in Engineering or Business related field
•Experience working directly with suppliers
•Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities
•Demonstrated ability to establish and mature a continuous improvement culture
•Familiarity with PMBOK and project management tools
•Strong written and verbal communication with people in different functions at all levels within an organization
•Results oriented, with a strong bias for action
•Ability to develop and motivate personnel to meet expectations
•Skilled at building effective multi-functional teams
•Participative management philosophy that leads by example
•Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate, influence and lead across value streams, functions, and sites
•Ability to develop constructive solutions with difficult people and organizations
•Proficiency with Microsoft suite of tools, especially Excel and PowerPoint

•Background in aerospace, automotive or related industries
•Master’s degree in Engineering or Business related field
•Experience managing direct reports in different geographic locations
•Direct experience in chemical processing, machining, metal fabrication or composites manufacturing
•Demonstrated experience implementing world class manufacturing techniques

Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person

Education: BA/BS Degree w/8 year direct related experience
