Job Summary


Airside (Baggage Services) Agents provide all necessary and required baggage sortation services to ensure departing baggage is loaded on the correct flight, and arriving baggage is reconciled with passengers in a timely manner. Duties include (and not limited to) sorting baggage and cargo, delivery and collection of baggage from the aircraft and handling of inbound arriving baggage and cargo


Job Responsibilities

  • To lead, inform and motivate staff working in the Baggage area so that the required baggage handling standards and delivery criteria are met
  • To manage the staff and equipment within the required planning standards and to contribute to the planning process 
  • To ensure on a weekly basis that the desk plot information is translated into the necessary chute and island planning for the operational shifts using the Baggage Hall Flight Editor 
  • To ensure that communications within Ramp, between Swissport departments and with customers is carried out in a timely and professional manner and that all relevant operational records are fully maintained 
  • To meet with relevant Swissport departments to ensure that the interests of the Undercroft are professionally represented and reported 
  • To clearly understand all Health, Safety and security, statutory and regulatory requirements. To ensure that Health and Safety is seen as a critical measure of business success, by communicating effectively, managing and taking all corrective action consistently and promptly 
  • To maintain the current administration and statistical recording of baggage related information.
  • To develop full personal competence in the Baggage area and Ramp Operations role, working in a flexible manner and striving to maintain and improve the quality of the operation at all times.
  • Load and unload passenger luggage and air cargo, bulk and/or containers / pallets, onto carts and / or dollies and the airport belt system.
  • Load and unload wheelchairs and child strollers and deliver to designated location.
  • Provide special handling of luggage / cargo as required/directed
  • Deliver passenger luggage to claim area and unload onto conveyor system
  • Deliver air cargo to appropriate recipient
  • Drive and/or operate ground support equipment to include tow tractors, belt loaders, container loaders, baggage tugs, baggage carts, cargo dollies and other equipment as required.
  • Collect and load mail, live animals, wheelchairs and child strollers onto aircraft
  • Report all equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor/manager
  • Comply with all UK / Ireland / EU legislation as well as airport authority and carrier security requirements
  • Comply with Swissport Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety and security at all time
  • Other duties as assigned

  • In possession of at least three GCSE’s / O Level or Leaving Cert (and equivalent)
  • Minimum 1 years' Supervisory experience (or equivalent)
  • Effective leadership qualities to manage on a shift by shift basis a busy and vital area of operation
  • Effective planning processes
  • Flexible to work on various shifts (days, evening, nights, weekends, and holidays)
  • Ability to speak and understand the English language
  • Ability to travel to the airport at times where public transport is not available
  • Ability to follow processes and procedures and apply flexible approach when required
  • Willingness to work in inclement weather
  • Physically fit, able to work in a manual environment and repeatedly lift up to 32kg throughout a shift.
  • Able to work as a team in a fast paced environment
  • A full driving license
  • Previous experience working in an aviation environment is desired
