In 1951 when Bill Moog founded Moog Inc., he had one product and a vision of company culture so strong that it became the foundation of the company we are today. We operate within a culture of trust and mutual respect, allowing our engineers to collaborate and produce cutting edge technology, as well as aiding our business in the ability to share goals and achieve them together. Today Moog is a premier provider of performance motion control technology; we are represented by our Aircraft, Space & Defense, Industrial and Components Groups.

The Space and Defense Group is currently seeking a Sr Project Engineer. This position is responsible for development of, and assisting in the selling of complex electrohydraulic, electromechanical, hydromechanical and electropneumatic components and systems that will become the new products of Moog, Inc. The incumbent plans and conducts efforts requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard and nonstandard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. The Senior Project Engineer independently devises new approaches for the problems encountered and plans and coordinates the work of others.

Here's a bit more of what you can expect...

A variety of technical functions exist within the Design/Development Engineering Department. Reporting to the group's, division's or product line's Chief Engineer typically are Associate Engineers, Development Engineers, Design and Project Engineers, Senior Design and Senior Project Engineers, Senior Staff Engineers, and Principal Engineers, as well as Section Heads or Group Leaders. The Senior Project Engineer typically reports to a Section Head or Group Leader within the department or he/she might report directly to the Chief Engineer. The incumbent requires guidance on general assignment objectives and critical issues, but he/she is expected to make independent and unreviewed decisions on most technical and program matters. His/Her work is periodically reviewed for application of sound professional judgment in meeting overall program objectives.

The Senior Project Engineer is a primary motivator and contributor to the analysis, conceptual design, development, and testing of complex control hardware used on military, commercial and NASA vehicles and equipment. The products of Moog generally are unique for each customer. Therefore, most new applications require a special, tailored design, even though adaptation of existing designs always should be considered where appropriate. The incumbent will operate either independently or as part of a design/development team, which includes other Department engineers. His/Her primary concerns are system or component performance and integration, both being achieved within budget and prescribed schedules. The incumbent will coordinate the work of drafters, technicians, designers, analysts, manufacturing engineers and others who assist in specific assignments.

In the early stages of a new program, the Senior Project Engineer will consult with the customer, establish the problem statement, conceive of potential hardware solutions to the problem, often through extensive trade studies, and then create a successful technical proposal. This phase is critical in that it establishes the basis for future design, and for contract negotiations.

During the design and development phase the Sr. Project Engineer will guide the evolution of the conceptual design, and serve as focal point for customer communications. He/She is responsible for technical project planning and for development testing. His/Her primary concern is for system or component performance and integration, so he/she will initiate or carry out whatever analysis tasks are necessary to ensure specification performance compliance. These could include computer dynamic modeling, error analysis, transient failure behavior analysis, and failure modes and effects analysis TMEA). He/she is also responsible for managing engineering project budgets and schedules through close coordination with the program manager.

The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for communicating with the involved Division support personnel, keeping them informed of progress and educating them on the operation and performance of the design. He/She must frequently solicit their aid and support to achieve difficult schedule objectives.

The incumbent's responsibilities may include the direct supervision of up to four subordinate engineers and/or project or product-engineering technicians. This would include setting their workload and priorities, counseling and conducting performance appraisals.

Since this individual will often be seen by customers as the responsible technical representative of the company, he/she must be able to communicate fluently to a wide variety of audiences. He/She will be required to travel frequently and organize and make presentations to customers.

Qualified candidates will have…

To achieve the position of Senior Project Engineer, an individual will have a BS degree in Engineering, probably an advanced degree, with a depth of understanding achieved through experience in the design, analysis, and development of complex electrohydraulic, electromechanical, or electropneumatic servomechanisms. 8 years of relevant experience is required. In addition, he/she must have a proven record of successful development programs working as a part of a project team.

ACCOUNTABILITES:

1.

Develop new product requirements through consulting with customers and sales personnel.

2.

Establish and monitor engineering project budgets and schedules.

3.

Validate conceptual problem solutions by performing trade studies and analyses.

4.

Prepare successful proposal designs, cost estimates, and shoulder the responsibility for writing the technical volume.

5.

Operate as a key element in a team of creative, independent individuals.

6.

Represent Moog in a manner consistent with its technical reputation.

7.

Create reliable designs through a comprehensive experimental development test program.

8.

Document designs, analyses, and test results with accurate and concise reports.

9.

Consult on new product and market development efforts.

10.

Assist in interviewing, training, and counseling junior engineers.

11.

When applicable supervise subordinate engineers and project/product engineering technicians
