The Compliance Specialist reports directly to the Manager of Compliance in Tech Ops for the Eastern Region. The Compliance Specialist conducts in-depth investigations to evaluate system deficiencies as related to AA’s Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program (CAMP) and the CFR to provide support of quality and compliance of the airline. Investigations will focus on aircraft maintenance errors and events to identify opportunities to correct operational risk. The process will consist of, but not limited to, interviewing employees, researching procedures, communicating with subject matter experts and coordination with the appropriate departments to identify root cause(s) and develop effective corrective action(s). The information gathered from the investigations will be communicated to manage risk. For investigations which are associated with FAA correspondence, the Compliance Specialist will be responsible for writing the correspondence for the company and communicating with the FAA CMO. The role will require supporting and collaborating with various Technical Operation and Safety departments. Also, the Compliance Specialist will be a local interface to FAA inspections and surveillance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

* Complete investigations/assignments timely and accurately

* Provide maintenance safety and compliance support for operations

* Manage visits from regulatory agencies

* Identify and communicate the impact of human factors

* Assess risk events associated with correspondence

* Assist in developing corrective actions for aircraft maintenance quality and regulatory compliance

* Collect, analyze and distribute compliance and quality performance information

* Build relationships and coordinates cross-functionally at all AA maintenance operations locations

* Serve as consultant or advocate on specialized compliance and other programs or projects

* Develop, encourages and insists upon a culture of safety, compliance and client satisfaction

* Support team members when appropriate

* Effective working relationships with Tech Ops departments and the FAA

* Satisfactory levels of compliance supported by operating department safety performance

* Level of ownership of tasks, projects and overall assignments

Job Qualifications

Education/Experience

* High School, GED or equivalent diploma. University or equivalent degree preferred

* Minimum of three (3) years of Maintenance Operations or compliance equivalent experience

* Engineering degree or Airframe & Power Plant (A&P) license desired or equivalent experience

* CFR and AA’s CAMP

* In-depth familiarity with various functional areas within the Tech Ops organization

* Union workforce experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Airline and aircraft maintenance technical knowledge

* Working knowledge of AA Tech Ops policies and procedures

* Working knowledge of FAA and other applicable regulations pertaining to aircraft maintenance, repair and engineering

* The impact of human factors in aircraft maintenance

* Working knowledge of applicable CFR’s and regulatory guidance

* Work cross-departmentally to resolve issues and develop lasting effective solutions

* Write, create and present plans and presentations that are intelligent, focused and persuasive

* Research within company systems (SAFE, ASOM, Manuals etc.)

* Must fulfill a criminal background check to qualify for unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA), if applicable

* Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable

* Work various shifts including weekends, holidays and days off as necessary

* Travel is required
