The Meteorology Project Manager works closely with Flight Control, Flight Operations, IT, Operations Management, and Operations Analysis & Performance groups to:
Develop weather models and simulations using active and historical data to predict and measure the potential impact of inclement weather on our complex operation
Communicate with meteorologists to understand existing processes and assist in implementing machine learning based approach
Research, design, implementation and validation of advanced machine learning algorithms to analyze diverse sources of data to achieve targeted outcomes of meteorology forecasting
Guide forecasting solutions utilizing advanced quantitative methods to influence decisions and identify opportunities to bring value to customers.
Lead development of complex predictive models that require the use of statistical modeling balanced with business knowledge.
Determine appropriate statistical methods and/or approach to best satisfy meteorology needs.
Lead validation of model performance, quality, and reliability of forecasting models over time.
Create tools that ingest weather and operational data to identify future operational impacts.
Identify sources of alternate forecast data for increased reliability and accuracy.
Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Bachelor's in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Econometrics, Computer Science, or other quantitative discipline is required
PH. D. or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Econometrics, Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience
At least 5 years of experience in predictive modeling, using machine learning algorithms and utilizing large and complex structured and unstructured data is required (or 3 years with MBA)
Demonstrated experience leading advanced analytics and "Big Data" projects using methods such as logistic regression, clustering, neural networks, GBM, classification, decision trees, random forests, etc.
Proven ability to lead design, development, testing, and validation of statistical models
Strong programming skills in SAS/SAS Enterprise Miner, R, Python, Aster and JAVA
Hands-on experience with SQL using Teradata and other relational databases
Hands-on experience with "Big Data" solutions such as Hadoop, NoSQL, MapReduce, etc.
Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills
Ability to lead teams through impediments and simultaneously manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and changing environment
Commitment to high-quality results with capability to establish a strong QA practice
Research, design and implement historical analysis of weather impact on fuel decisions
Previous experience of managing projects or teams is strongly preferred
Knowledge of travel industry and meteorology forecasting preferred
