Project Engineer


In this compelling opportunity, Parker’s Hydraulic Systems Division is seeking senior level Project Engineer to ensure the timely and efficient completion of larger, complicated or multiple projects to achieve company cost and customer service objectives within the electromechanical actuation space. Act as project leader (with mentoring opportunities) with senior level technical responsibility for planning, organizing, and conducting complex technical projects or major phases of projects involving the design and development of new or improved products and/or processes.


•Manage New Product Development from proposal to preliminary design review and critical design review.

•Develop project goals and objectives by reviewing customer specifications and other requirements along with the technical and commercial project proposals, customer statements of work, and conferring with management.

•Ensure projects meet schedule, cost results, and technical expectations through effective project leadership.

• Maintains frequent formal and informal customer interface to present project status; may propose and/or negotiate changes in schedules or specifications. Gains customer confidence in overall support of customer programs. Parker’s customers and suppliers are multi-cultural so international experience is preferred.

•Determine advanced project specifications/proposals by studying product design, customer requirements (including performance, service and support, and data requirements), and complete technical studies; and prepare cost estimates.

•Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements, assign staffing and resources, and review technical data and program plans from various customers, business partners, and/or suppliers. Ensure coordination of project goals within and across divisions.

•Determine project schedule by studying project plans and specification; calculate time requirements; and sequencing project elements. Maintain project schedule/plan by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems by identifying alternative solutions. Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information, assessing trends; and recommend corrective actions.

•Control project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; and recommend actions to achieve performance to committed milestones. Control project costs by reviewing non-recurring costs, monitor and approve expenditures, and administer contractor contracts.

•Apply and lead continuous improvement initiatives through the development of new engineering technology, product development, analytic tools, and key production principles and techniques.

•Verify product performance by overseeing the design of detailed plans to verify the performance through similarity, analysis, and conducting tests.

•Maintain engineering project database by establishing engineering history files, project files, and related information to provide repository for technical project activities, current activities, and future records.

•Act as consultant to top management on significant issues. May be responsible for multiple phases of a project and provide leadership to others in department or in integrated product development teams.

•Serve as technical subject expert and resource. Share specialized knowledge with others and ensures knowledge transfer on technologies and products. Represent company on specific projects. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities (e.g. continuous improvement).


•Bachelor’s degree (BS) in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering or a related technical discipline. MS preferred.

•Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through ten or more years of related experience.

•Experience with the design of electromechanical actuation for aircraft applications such as thrust reversers, landing gear doors, landing gear steering, or other utility applications on the aircraft is preferred.

•Experience with design of hydraulic thrust reverser actuation system components, landing gear door actuators, landing gear retraction actuation, and other hydraulic actuators is preferred plus. Familiarity with hydraulic reservoirs, accumulators, valves, system design and other electrical components is also beneficial.

•Proven ability to direct and provide project management from concept through qualification.

•Demonstrated excellence in working with customers, managing requirements, directing new product development teams, accountability to schedules and budgets, and solid fundamentals in hydro-mechanical design.

•Experience in control systems and associated interfaces preferred. Familiar with AMESim, Simulink or other modeling tools.
