Position Description

Must be U.S. Citizen
SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate will provide the technical expertise to drive detector innovation programs within Detector R&D and provide sustaining engineering support to production areas. The candidate will support new and exploratory detector programs. Must be an effective communicator, work under tight deadlines, ensure project schedules are maintained, and support the high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector manufacturing production goals and objectives.

Position Requirements

SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate will provide the technical expertise to drive detector innovation programs within Detector R&D and provide sustaining engineering support to production areas. The candidate will support new and exploratory detector programs. Must be an effective communicator, work under tight deadlines, ensure project schedules are maintained, and support the high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector manufacturing production goals and objectives.

Responsibilities include:
• Support detector development programs and design and implement innovative technologies

• Apply physics theories and principles to design new and support sustaining detector programs and technology

• Apply technical expertise both individually and through participation in multi-disciplinary teams to support germanium detector development from design to transfer of new products to manufacturing upon completion and release of new detector programs to market

• Identify, promote, and manage growth initiatives as they relate to emerging detector technologies and applications

• Research, evaluate, and design experiments concerning the latest detector processing techniques

• Troubleshoot anomalies and failures in detector systems to identify point of origin of failure. Work with Detector Operation’s teams, engineers, and technicians to resolve failure and optimize system and process performance

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Not immediately, possible in the future.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
BS degree in Physics required, MS or PhD preferable; four to five years’ experience with semiconductor detectors or working with semiconductor physics preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Mechanical drawing and MCNP modeling is preferred, but not required.
