This Principal Solution Architect - HR and Corporate Systems position performs a technical leadership role - working across application development and infrastructure teams in IT. This role ensures technology solutions are designed, developed, and implemented in alignment with enterprise architecture patterns and high quality to meet Delta's needs.

This role will partner with the Human Resources portfolio, responsible for providing systems to support employees and contractors at Delta and its Subsidiaries and the Corporate Systems portfolio which provides systems to support Finance, Legal, Corporate Security and Corporate Communications. This position reports to the Director of Applications Solution Architecture and will work in close collaboration with leadership responsible for Human Resources and Corporate Systems application development.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS ROLE

- Serve as an expert for the Human Resources and Corporate Systems portfolio and optimize technology solutions and performance for operationally critical, high volume systems
- The Principal Solution Architect will identify and translate system requirements into a prescribed architecture and design that meet business requirements and are aligned to Delta's architecture standards and principles
- The individual collaborates within Enterprise Architecture and across Portfolio & Technology Directors, Project Managers, Project Architects, Resource Managers and Project Team members to enable the team to develop estimates, develop construction plans and prepare implementation approaches
- Provide strategic thinking, solutions and roadmaps while driving architectural guidance for the Human Resources and Corporate Systems portfolio
- Maintain adherence to architecture guiding principles, reference architectures and standards
- Optimize technology solutions for Delta business portfolios via a deep understanding of the business processes and systems for the given portfolio
- Identifying business opportunities for potential solution development efforts and support portfolio in development strategic plans
- Ensure architectural adherence through blueprint and design reviews and by conducting reviews throughout the development cycle
- Assist in the remediation of application stability and performance
- Adopt and communicate new concepts, ideas, techniques, best practices and technology assistance
- Perform project level design, debug and performance analysis
- Responsible for the development and production support of enterprise application utilities and models including publishing, best practices and guidelines for supported technologies
- The candidate must work with various internal and external technical resources to drive consensus on technology solutions
- Is responsible to source, lead, and manage a team of Project Architects to ensure the realization of project goals
- Work with vendors and product management areas to establish required infrastructure and frameworks
- Evaluation of multiple vendors and selection process to find solutions matching the organization's strategic direction.
- Maintain Delta Air Lines application and infrastructure rationalization strategies
Individual must have experience on multiple hardware and software environments and be comfortable with complex heterogeneous systems. The candidate must have experience in creating and leading multiple projects through the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and will have usually performed in a variety of different roles in that life cycle. The individual will also need to be an expert in and have hands-on experience with multiple (three or more) Delta application development teams and/or business areas. The person should possess an ability to share and communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to people at various levels within the organization in a clear and concise manner that is relevant to each of the groups.

This expat position, based in Shanghai, is a technical leadership position that will work to deepen the relationship between Delta and China Eastern. This will be achieved through collaboration with our partners at China Eastern to identify high level architectural investment recommendations at China Eastern, to share knowledge with and help to grow China Eastern's enterprise architecture team & practice, to facilitate adoption of Delta application capabilities within China Eastern, to facilitate greater integration between China Eastern and Delta systems, and to coordinate and facilitate information exchange between China Eastern and Delta IT teams. This position will work closely with other Delta expat positions also located in Shanghai.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? / WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOU NEED?

- Candidate must have 10+ years of experience in system design and development, with recent emphasis in SAP HCM and SAP Financial ERP as well as on complex solutions crossing several business areas and a record of demonstrating long term strategic vision for organizations and execution plans to implement the vision
- The ideal candidate is experienced on multiple hardware and software environments and be comfortable with complex heterogeneous systems. Further, Experience in designing modern distributed application to work with legacy mainframe system is ideal.
- The candidate must have experience working on high performance, high throughput transactional systems that are operationally critical and must be available at 99.99 or better
- The candidate must have experience in creating and leading multiple projects through the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and will have usually performed in a variety of different roles in that life cycle
- The person should possess an ability to share and communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to people at various levels within the organization in a clear and concise manner relevant to each of the groups.
- Candidate must have demonstrated successful track record of delivering projects of medium or above priority and risk
- Must have expert level competency in a technology area and demonstrated strong expertise in two or more additional technology areas
- Broad system-level expertise across multiple computing platforms and technologies is required, along with the ability to influence technical direction at the department level and across multiple IT projects or technology areas.
- Experience in leading multiple offshore vendors and teams through large scale projects.
