UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.
ISR & Space Systems Windsor Locks is looking for energetic and highly motivated candidates for its Engineering Organization. The primary responsibility of a Preliminary Design Engineer is to develop future business by working with NASA and industry customers on their Environment Control and Life Support (ECLS) needs for crewed spaceflight. This involves working with our potential customers to develop the necessary architecture and system sizing of the ECLS system and developing the technical offering and proposal technical write-ups for any associated proposals. It also involves supporting marketing efforts such as technical conferences including writing and presenting technical papers and selling our technical capabilities to potential customers.
* Minimum of 10 years in pertinent space life support design
* Candidate should have a solid understanding of thermodynamics of mechanical, electrical and chemical systems as well as a working knowledge of heat transfer, fluid flow and chemical bed sizing
* Knowledge of space life support and supporting crewed NASA programs is a plus
Must be a U.S. Citizen or US Person must either hold a current US DoD clearance or must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance if required, and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Education: BS Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, advanced technical degree preferred
