Mechanics in this position use hand tools, shop aids, mechanical and power equipment to form and straighten the contour, angularity and flatness of detail parts to checking fixtures and tools, per drawing and specifications. Employment in this position also requires handling, standing, walking, lifting and carrying less than 10 pounds, flexion/extension, contact with metals, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, hand/arm, ears and feet.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work jobs based on order of priority, Enterprise Resource Planner (ERP) list, or as assigned by lead.
Review work order (W/O) to verify prior operations have been completed and work is in the appropriate area.
Ensure that the correct quantity of parts, correct type and quantity of material, the correct drawing, tools, fixtures, (e.g., Contour Template (CT), Shaper Fixture (SHF), Miscellaneous Indexing Tool (MIT)) and part tags are with the work package.
Check the tool(s) for damage.
Work with area lead to review nonconformance items and/or engineering dispositions to accomplish rework.
Move parts and or tools within the work area using appropriate material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jack), as required.
Set-up the tool configuration per tooling instructions, (e.g., locate header, tool pin), place parts into tool to check contour, angularity and/or flatness. Work part contour, angularity and flatness to drawing/tool requirements, using hand/machine tools (e.g., stretcher/shrink machine, arbor press, power roller, contour blocks, hammers, twisters). Check part contour, angularity and flatness in and out of tool, using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, protractor, feeler gauge), shop aids (e.g., straight edge tool, go-no go gauge, sand bags) and re-straighten, as required.
Remove surface blemishes (e.g., scratches, gouges, nicks, dents), using shop aid blocks, hammers, sandpaper, scotchbrite, as required.
Clean parts, equipment, and tools using solvents, as required. Wipe dry.
Check work after completion of each operation.
Sell in process or completed operations to inspector, as required by W/O or shop policy. Identify parts, attach appropriate quantity of metal and/or paper part number tags or use dot peen to mark parts. Create tags, as required.
Interleaf parts for movement, protective wrap, as required.
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in a safe appropriate manner and location. Contact lead, supervisor, or co-worker with questions, when assistance is needed or when any problem arises.
