Tasks to be Accomplished

* Determine the requirements, create the optical design and coordinate full design of new optical tooling and fixtures to support the optical assembly build process. Create and implement test plans for tooling validation. Assess and provide input on manufacturability of new optical assemblies

* Determine requirements, design, create test plan and validation plan of automated testing

* Define requirements for and support optical equipment preventive maintenance and calibration

* Translate optical specifications from engineering to manufacturing requirements and assess impact on manufacturing processes, tooling and cost

* Source and specify optical test equipment for factory

* Develop and maintain optically related processes and procedures

* Monitor performance characteristics, yields, perform trend and statistical analysis

* Investigate failures of electro-optical systems, coordinate root cause investigations and corrective action implementation

* Lead continuous improvement initiatives, be able to provide a cost benefit analysis

* Assist materials department in setting up testing at vendor sites, support root cause investigations and technical support

* Lead and coordinate ME efforts for development of build and test processes of new electro-optical assemblies and systems as part of the NPI process, to ensure smooth transition of newly developed products into manufacturing



Skills Required

* Excellent technical communication skills both written and verbal

* * Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

* Priority setting skills, dynamic, resourceful and are known for sense of initiative (sense of urgency, innovative, problem solver)

* Ability to learn and grow within a fast paced environment

* Experience in the photonics field and with optical design considered an asset

* Experience with C++, LabVIEW and Matlab considered an asset

* * Technical expertise and experience working with optical assemblies and sensors, electronics and video processing considered an asset

Experience & Education Requirements

* Undergraduate Degree in Engineering Physics or equivalent program

* Must have at least 3+ years’ experience in an Engineering/Manufacturing Engineering capacity
