UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.
ISR & Space Systems Windsor Locks is looking for energetic and highly motivated Mechanical Test Engineer candidates for its Manufacturing Organization.
This position includes the responsibilities (but is not limited to): Design, implement, and maintain test processes for Space Systems hardware using lean philosophies and techniques. Take a leadership role in driving action in the development, planning & implementation of timely and effective corrective actions for problems during product manufacturing and testing. This can involve testing, data analysis, and interface with all aspects of the engineering department.
Duties include the interpretation/analysis of customer test requirements and subsequent cost estimates to support an appropriate test program.
Responsibilities also include daily interface with Program, Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering organizations to ensure that customer committed hardware and data deliveries are consistently met. Typical Duties: Support laboratory testing of Space Station hardware, Develop and validate tooling concepts, Author and maintain operation/test procedures, Preparation of standardized operation/test sheets, Defining test rig and facility requirements, Participation on program Integrated Product Development teams, Review drawings and concepts, and resolve producibility concerns.
Experience with advanced instrumentation and data acquisition systems is required. Knowledge of LabVIEW desired. Experience should also include five years working on the testing of complex mechanical systems, testing of electrical systems and components such as motor controllers, actuator controls, & system controllers. Capability of working independently and is self-motivated. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal are required. Ability to proficiently operate common Microsoft Office software products is required.
Candidate must have 8+ years’ experience working on the manufacture of complex mechanical systems is desirable
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment and experience in using any type of Publishing System
• Familiarity with a modeling and/or design package such as ProE, Creo, or CAD is desired.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, machining concepts and special processing, such as welding and brazing, is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of Continuous improvement methods (ACE or the DMAIC model) and demonstrated use of their tools is desirable
• Experience with a MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning) system is desirable

Education: Bachelors of Science in Engineering/Manufacturing with 8+ years of experience.
