ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.
ISR & Space Systems Houston is looking for an energetic and highly motivated candidate for its Engineering Organization. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for Mechanical Engineering activities associated with installation, design, development, and qualification testing or field support of components for the Space Suit Extravehicular Mobility unit (EMU), the Universal Waste Management System (UWMS) for NASA’s Crew Exploration Vehicle, or life support assemblies on board NASA’s International Space Station.
The successful candidate will possess a positive "can do" attitude, good presentation skills, respect for others, confidence, and patience.
Knowledgeable in 3-D CAD modeling fundamentals (preferably Pro-E), stress and fatigue analysis, machine design, and material selection.
* Knowledge of drawings, geometric tolerancing, and drawing interpretation.
* Experience with manufacturing techniques for limited production hardware.
* Competence in use of NASTRAN, ANSYS, or simulate stress analysis packages desired previous experience in aerospace structures and engineering fluid component design required.
* Ability to work within a matrix organization to achieve team and program goals.
* SAP experience preferred.
* Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools.
Must be a U.S. Citizen, must either hold a current US DoD clearance or must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance if required, and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Education / Certifications
BSME or AE minimum
2-5 years’ mechanical design experience with previous experience in aerospace fluid component design desired
