Primary Objectives

* Actively participate in the mechanical design of complex mechanical assemblies from concept to production.

* Provide Mechanical Design expertise and act as a Mechanical Engineering Subject Matter Expert across the organization.

* Work closely with other Designers and Manufacturing to achieve the best possible mechanical designs considering all performance requirements, manufacturability & cost, for existing and new products

* Creating and checking Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) for completeness and accuracy, and implementing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)

* Generate design related documentation including BOMs, part and assembly drawings, engineering studies, test reports, etc.

* Collaborating with engineers, project managers and configuration staff with regards to engineering changes

* Investigation, analysis and recommendations of improvements for product reliability, product performance and cost reductions

* Collaborate closely with Product Managers and other team members from WESCAM Burlington Operations to support estimates and ensure high quality of design solutions.

* Design, build and use precision mechanical engineering test fixtures using modern methods to measure the performance of mechanical parts and assemblies.

* Participate in and present results at design review meetings related to modifications and new lens designs.

* Actively participate in the application, maintenance and improvement of the Engineering design practices, processes and standards.

* Keep up-to-date knowledge of the Precision Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering industries trends and new technologies that may be relevant to WESCAM’s business.

Subject Matter Expertise

* CAD design using preferably CADKEY, I-DEAS, SolidWorks

* Structural analysis - FEA

* Thermal analysis - FEA & CFD

* Testing methods - ESS, HALT

* PLM, preferably Teamcenter



Required Skills, Experience and Competencies

* Degree in Mechanical Engineering ( B. Sc or M. Sc)

* 5 years or progressive experience demonstrating increasingly complex design skills

* Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering, Fine Mechanics and Mechanical design principles

* Proficiency with Mechanical 3D CAD software, Solidworks preferred

* Proven ability to virtually prototype and analyze complex mechanical designs before they are built and tested

* Knowledge of materials science (corrosion, composites, surface coating and conversion)

* Proficiency in a Mechanical Engineering lab environment

* Knowledge of Structural Analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

* Knowledge of electro-mechanical drive design principles

* Knowledge of machining, casting and sheet metal manufacturing techniques and processes

* Mechanical aptitude, good hands-on skills

* Knowledge of drawing standards and mechanical design standard practice

* Strong communication skills both verbally and written

* Proficient in use of Microsoft Office products

* P. Eng. designation is an asset

* Eligible to meet the Controlled Goods Program requirements
