UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.

We are looking for a candidate that will be responsible for overseeing the Space Systems, Windsor Locks, CT (SSWL) Manufacturing Engineering functional Tooling group, managing up to 4 or 5 Manufacturing Engineering Tool Design and Tool Coordinator associates. The Tool Design Group is responsible for the design, procurement, and build of all manufacturing and test tooling in the department. The candidate will lead an internal team as well as outside contracting agencies to complete tooling requirements for the department, while complying with all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety requirements as well as all applicable Quality requirements. The candidate will have SAP experience as it relates to processing tooling throughout the build cycle including developing routers and estimating touch time. The candidate will be responsible for meeting all staffing needs, budgets and schedules while supporting the Integrated Product Development Team model. Candidate will provide leadership in meeting SSWL business unit targets/objectives and functional objectives and support the department’s quality, procedural and audit needs. A major portion of the position will be to determine, implement and lead process improvement opportunities, business unit initiatives and corrective actions. Candidate will lead efforts to understand non-conformances and reduce Cost of Poor Quality. Must be able to coach and mentor associates. The ideal candidate will be creative, energetic, flexible, possess a positive attitude and be eager to apply and expand their engineering and leadership skills in a highly ethical manner.

Qualification:
Candidate must have 6+ years’ experience working on the manufacture of complex mechanical systems is desirable
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment and experience in using any type of Publishing System
4+ years’ experience working on the manufacture of complex mechanical systems is desirable
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment and experience in using any type of Publishing System
• Familiarity with a modeling and/or design package such as ProE, Creo, or CAD is desired.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, machining concepts and special processing, such as welding and brazing, is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of Continuous improvement methods (ACE or the DMAIC model) and demonstrated use of their tools is desirable
• Experience with a MRP (Manufacturing Resource Planning) system is desirable
• US Person is required

Education: BS in Engineering or Technology. MBA or advanced Engineering degree is desired.
