Air Canada is seeking a Manager, Architecture - Network.  This individual will be in charge of the data network architect and expected to develop the 3 year data network roadmap, and execute the plan, with our primary vendors.  Air Canada has over 150 “locations” around the world, with 7/24 operations.  Data network is an absolutely vital element in the airlines commitment to customer service and excellence in its operations.  This position will be responsible for working with the airline’s primary network providers to ensure there is a clear network strategy, target infrastructure and plan to move it forward.  The Manager, Network Architect will also work the other key enterprise architects, business unit representatives, the IT Operational team, to ensure the network is designed and implemented to provide the appropriate levels of capacity, redundancy, failover protection, and where appropriate monitoring and security. This position reports to the Chief Architect, Enterprise Architecture.

  • This is a key position within the Enterprise Architecture team, interacting with primary vendors and business units.  It has both a strategic and a tactical component; strategic in that an investment and execution plan must be developed and managed; tactical in that, you will be involved in the execution of deliverables and may be involved when incidents take place, ensuring the most efficient restoration of service to the business.
  • Set direction for the evolution of AC’s data network and establishing priorities
  • Work closely with key business representatives to proactively drive continuous improvement programs to ensure the networks perform optimally and cost effectively. 
  • Aligning with key business requirements, emerging technologies and the ongoing requirements for network security, take the leadership in developing the network requirements for the AC 3-5 year Architecture and Technology Plan.
  • Develop, publish and communicate with both internal and external stakeholders, Air Canada network, standards, policies and protocols.
  • Develop and implement formal review process programs with Business Unit owners and Vendors (ie capacity, new technology etc.)
  • Provide specific direction to AC’s primary IT vendors with respect to the data network; develop and manage specific improvement programs for specific network requirements for application delivery, redundancy, capacity – from wireless to wired, cell and even satellite.
  • In conjunction with our Sourcing Strategy team, support negotiations of new Terms and conditions, SLA’s as required. Review Operational contract and SLA compliance and take part in key committees, including:
    • High Priority/High Risk change reviews
    • Monthly Operations Committees
    • Various other 3rd Party vendor meetings.
  • Drive or participant in relevant Outage Reviews and ensure follow-ups for all actions as it relates to Network.
  • Working with various Business Units to improve Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning and investments to ensure protection of key network requirements.


  • A relevant University degree/technical certifications (and/or relevant experience)
  • A self starter
  • Data or Network Architecture experience (planning and execution)
  • Outstanding Network expertise, both legacy and emerging
  • Strong leadership with ability to work with management at all levels of business, AC IT and outsourcing organizations.
  • Bring a sense of urgency, drive for results with analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills
