JOB SUMMARY:
To machine a wide variety of aircraft parts.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Sets up and operates any type and size turret lathe to perform a wide range of operations requiring difficult tool settings and methods utilizing the full capacity of the assigned machines to finish machine materials and parts on both production and developmental work usually where no planning or tooling is available.
a. Performs any planning or layout work necessary in making set ups. Determines tools, sets and adjusts tools and controls without aid from supervisor.
b. Detects faulty operations and takes prompt action to correct such operation to avoid damage to product and equipment. Grinds cutting tools required in the completion of work assignment.
II. Plans and performs a sequence of operations to accomplish new and unusual jobs where only general sequencing or operational methods are available. Sets ups are exacting but not difficult.
III. Uses a variety of measuring instruments which may include micrometers, vernier calipers, dial gages, thread gages, bore gages, dial indicator gages, etc.
IV. Responsible only for own work.
V. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High school education or equivalent. Requires use of blue prints, drawings, advanced shop mathematics, handbook formulas, and variety of precision instruments.
EXPERIENCE:
3-5 years turret lathe or closely related experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Somewhat disagreeable working conditions due to exposure to cutting oils and chips.
