Job Title: Lathe Operator
Description: Position parts onto the machine to be lathed. Cut parts to meet the tolerances outlined in the customer specifications and Association of American Railroads standards. Once lathed, gauge the parts with a dial indicator for accuracy. Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or company management.
Overall Purpose: Lathe parts to comply with customer and the Association of American Railroads specification for the use in bearing assemblies.
1. Positions parts onto the lathe.
2. Adjust the speed, feed rate and cutting depth of machine.
3. Gauges the parts for conformance.
Physical Demands & Frequency: Requires frequent lifting; reaching, handling and fingering.
A. Position: standing, walking.
B. Weights & Force: Lifting up to 10 pounds.
C. Use of Controls: Uses a lathe with hand wheels to adjust measurements.
D. Vision must be normal (20/20). Correctional lenses are acceptable.
General Educational Development: Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Information may be presented in written, oral or diagrammatic form and requires a common sense understanding to be applied in order to carry out the instructions.
Qualifications/Training: Candidate shall successfully complete training program and as applicable, qualification requirements, as defined by the responsible functional manager. The ability to set-up and interpret gauge equipment and readings is desired. Basic data entry experience is a plus. New hires shall demonstrate satisfactory performance during new hire probationary period
Training: No experience necessary, on the job training provided.
Aptitudes: Requires motor coordination, finger dexterity and manual dexterity.
Temperaments: Able to perform repetitive or short-cycle work.
Environmental Conditions: Frequent impact noise, seasonal heat.
Protective Clothing and Personal Devices: Safety glasses, and safety shoes.
