The ITOC Systems Engineer is a hands-on technical role focused on administering and supporting systems spanning for our multi-site environment. The Systems Engineer takes ownership of support requests and escalations reported by our end users, client support team, and other business teams to resolve, or identify further action required to provide resolution. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with a wide range of technologies, operating systems, networking concepts and a desire to continuously improve upon that knowledge.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all systems, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backup
  • Define, prioritize, and resolve all support requests in an organized, efficient and expedited fashion.
  • Administration and monitoring of corporate and managed services cloud-based systems.
  • Development, maintenance, and usage of automation scripts using Bash, PowerShell, Python, etc.
  • Assist with patch management in Development / QA and Production environments.
  • Create and maintain configuration documentation, as well as system and operations documentation.
  • Identify and develop monitoring checks needed to ensure the stability of the infrastructure.
  • Champion team success over individual accomplishment.
  • Troubleshoot system (functional and operational) issues as well as maintain the system operations at all time.
  • Document Standard Operating Procedures for troubleshooting.
  • Act as primary point of contact for outages and escalations and assign Incident Managers for emergent issues.
  • Monitor backups and restore files on request.
  • Monitor ticket tracking system for newly assigned tasks.
  • Monitor and report on all of Spirit networks, systems and applications in a 24x7 World Class ITOC, while working expeditiously to limit impact to our customers and tracking the health of our SLA’s.
  • Handle routine Operations requests such as adding new users, restarting services, blocking IP addresses.
  • Implement and follow all policies and procedures for monitoring, testing product availability, how problems are identified and incident management.
  • Coach Junior Systems engineers.
  • Creating and maintaining IT configuration and knowledgebase documentation.
  • Produce, maintains and updates knowledgebase documentation.
  • Diagnose and remediate issues with Windows Server Infrastructure, and related roles and features, as well as other Microsoft and third-party Windows business infrastructure applications, while identifying recurring issues which can be remediated through automation.
  • Act as primary point of contact for outages and escalations and assign Incident Managers for emergent issues.


Required skills/experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Information Systems, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working with NOC tools, network management systems, escalation procedures, and other monitoring applications a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of virtualization technologies including; VMware, HyperV and Citrix.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in system administration and engineering on an enterprise environment.
  • Proven experience in highly complex environments.
  • Passionate about learning and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work on-dynamic rotating schedule and occasionally overtime.
  • Comprehensive understanding of PowerShell Scripting and automation practices.
  • Driven, high-energy, self-starter; comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high-growth environment
  • Knowledge of Cross platform technologies such as Windows, Applications, Storage, Networking.
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and provide solutions to improve our systems and processes.
  • Solid understanding of Windows administration and application resource utilization monitoring.
  • Solid understanding of network concepts and troubleshooting skills, DNS, IP and network hardware
  • Experience with Microsoft Infrastructure – Active Directory domains, DNS, DHCP, Windows Security, Group Policies, etc.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and virtualization software, Azure, AWS, Hyper-V and VMWare
  • Basic Understanding Load-balancers, web sessioning and be able to troubleshoot issues involving the same.
  • Able to support a 24x7x365 staffing model which includes weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form.
  • IIS, MSSQL 2005/2008/2012/2016 experience.
  • Automation/Scripting (Jenkins, Chef, Powershell) experience.
  • Proven experience in highly complex environments.
