L3 Technologies, Vertex Aerospace’s intern program offers paid business positions to provide students with real work experience and exposure to the Aerospace and Defense industry. Vertex Aerospace is currently seeking students interested in gaining valuable experience in Information Technology at our headquarters in Madison, Mississippi.

The Information Technology Intern will primarily assist the Desktop Support function. This position supports the Information Technology team and assists with analysis and systems design for a variety of applications. This position evaluates user requirements by coordinating with the user to define the problems, data availability, report requirements and system design problems. The intern will analyze alternate means of deriving input data to select the most accurate, feasible and economical methods; define input and output file specifications, including file organization; and formulate logical statements of user requirements and develop solutions through application of systems and methods engineering techniques.

Essential Functions

• Key responsibilities include performing routine and semi-routine work involving a variety of professional assignments within the Information Technology Department. This is a 10-week program supporting the Information Technology team. This team supports the configuration and deployment of Dell Desktop PCs and Laptops

• Responds to user queries, answers questions and resolves hardware and software problems in a multiple platform environment

• Ensures corrective actions are implemented and hardware and/or software are functioning properly

• Assists in testing programs and systems to integrate them into current system modules

• Assists in the development and implementation of directory configurations, messaging configurations, enterprise-wide operating systems, which include communication systems such as servers, routers, switches, etc.

• Provides assistance to monitor database operation for redundancy, integrity, integration, interfacing and security

• Provides technical support for the telecommunications equipment, filters and interfaces related to enterprise-wide messaging and communication systems utilizing a specialized set of diagnostic tools with security privileges

• Maintains the highest ethical personal and professional standards.

• Other projects and initiatives as assigned.

To be eligible, the candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and must have completed at least 60 semester hours in a Business/IT related discipline. Must be in good academic standing and have CGPA of 2.7 or higher. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.

The position requires strong interpersonal skills and drive for customer satisfaction. The successful candidate must be able to follow direction, ask for clarification, demonstrate business aptitude, solid analytical and problem solving skills. The candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills, and must be able to learn and adapt with new technologies.

Successful completion of the internship program will follow with a presentation to management and fellow interns. The presentation will include an overview of what the intern learned from the program, the projects worked, and the intern’s overall experience.

Employees in this position must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat.

US Citizenship required. As a Government Contractor, this position requires the employee to have access to premises which are, OR requires the employee to perform duties that are, subject to national security requirements of the United States under government contracts that impose US Citizenship requirements for such positions.

• Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a public trust position (if required for the position).

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance (if required for the position).

• Must be able to work weekends, other shifts and overtime as required.
