JOB PURPOSE

 

BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia.  We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons. 

 

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is committed to supporting the Saudi Arabian National Agenda including Saudisation and the training and development of Saudi National capability through the growth of the Saudi National Partner Companies thereby reinforcing Industrialisation and Partnerships.

The Head of Strategy works as a member of a business or functional team typically reporting into a Strategy or Business Director.  The requirement is to interpret business strategy and significantly contribute to the development & implementation of necessary Function of strategy, policy and procedures in order to support and meet the operational needs of the business, function or project.

 

The delivery of the role will typically be through the management of a small team of Strategy Managers and Professionals or is delivered as an individual contributor with significant subject matter expertise in a key Strategy discipline (capability lead).

 

The Head of Strategy can be called upon to deliver Strategy tasks and activities commensurate with their necessary skill set.

 

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

 

Creation of the BAES SA Strategic Objectives in conjunction with Corporate Guidelines and BAES SA MD

 

Creation of the annual BAE SA Strategy Framework, ensuring flow-down of the Corporate Framework, Ian King strategy focuses and IOG key actions are incorporated

 

BAES SA representative on the Strategic Functional Council led by Corporate Strategy with alignment of business unit strategies within KSA

 

Successful delivery and presentation of IBP Phase 1 and 2 to International Operating Group (IOG) ensuring alignment of financial plans to the strategy with subsequent presentation to IOG.

 

Level of proficiency would enable the job holder apply and consolidate specialist skills and knowledge and ensure essential procedures are followed to help to identify the standards and specifications around which others will operate

 

Full management of a team, including management of people, defining roles and responsibilities, planning for the departments future needs and operations, counselling employees on performance and contributing to employee pay decisions/changes.

 

The role evaluates (sometimes complex) situations using multiple sources of information referring to a diverse range of internal and external sources such as procedures and practices (in other teams, areas or companies etc). The complexity implied relate to the ability to filter, prioritise, analyse and validate potentially complex and dynamic material.

 

The role has an impact on the business through providing value added perspectives or advisory services that are important to decision making.

 

The impact of the role is on a work area such that the work and performance of all teams within the area will be directly affected by the performance of the jobholder.

 

Provides leadership and support in respect of Export Control in the Strategy Function and on behalf of the business.

 

Liaises with appropriate Export Control responsible persons to ensure that Export Control Training appropriate to the role (Awareness) is undertaken and refreshed as necessary.

 

Responsible for delivering relevant Strategy Export Control policies and processes on behalf of the business and ensuring meticulous compliance at all times

 

Establishes Export Control as a standing agenda item at department meetings to discuss, identify and address any Export Control related issues arising.

 

Ensures that SHE is a key agenda item at all management team meetings, encourages team members to submit “spot it report it’ to identify and manage risk.

 

Sets a minimum of one SHE objective for direct reports as part of formal PDR processes, reviews SHE status indicators and provides interventions to ensure continual improvement in SHE performance.

 

Ensures that both self and staff are current with all SHE mandated training, conduct relevant process confirmations on significant SHE hazards in the workplace and ensure that safety tours & inspections are carried out by direct reports.

 

Ensure so far as is reasonably practicable that SHE risks are identified and managed.  

 

 

 

RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

 

The role needs a comprehensive knowledge of several Strategy areas & how their processes & resources interact in other areas to achieve functional objectives.

 

A good understanding of industry & commercial awareness is required to understand the relative positioning of the Company’s products/services vs the competition.

 

The role needs to possess a very high level of communication skills, including interactive listening in order to negotiate (mainly internally) with other often at senior levels.

 

At this level the role requires excellent and broad Strategy knowledge and experience plus a detailed appreciation/understanding of the business, market and key competitors
