This position supports the H-1 test program in Patuxent River, Maryland. Candidate will be expected to provide sound technical direction and guidance for the planning, designing, directing, coordinating, conducting, and reporting of on-aircraft integrated avionics and mission systems T&E. Advanced knowledge of integrated aircraft mission systems test and evaluation is highly desired. Such T&E knowledge areas include, but are not limited to, the following: data display and control, human/machine interface, weapon system performance, system accuracy, system latency, tactical display utility, aircraft data management, and data fusion. Specific tasks will include test plan writing, test conduct, test report writing, and general support of the systems engineering process for integrated and installed aircraft avionics and mission systems. Each of these tasks may be applicable to laboratory, ground, and/or flight testing. These positions will also require significant interaction with high level program office personnel for the particular systems being supported. Active engagement in the training and mentoring of junior branch employees in the technical and administrative aspects of flight test engineering will also be required.
Education/Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering or four (4) years of equivalent experience and a minimum of five (5) years of experience with professional competence in the aircraft T&E engineering discipline, sufficient to provide overall management and technical direction of aircraft test requirements and processes is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidate must have a solid understanding of principles and practices of systems engineering including general knowledge of electronics, human/machine interface, and mechanical engineering. Candidate must have a working knowledge of both the theory and methods of aircraft testing. Candidate must have broad scientific technical knowledge of the theory and methods of weapon system acquisition and support requirements including complex problem solving and reduction and analysis of test data. Advanced knowledge of integrated aircraft mission systems test and evaluation is highly desired. Preferred T&E knowledge areas include, but are not limited to, the following: data display and control, human/machine interface, weapon system performance, system accuracy, system latency, tactical display utility, aircraft data management, and data fusion. Strong writing and oral presentation skills are highly desired. In depth knowledge of T&E engineering principles and processes to modify or extend current theories or test practices and/or procedures is also desired.
