Position Expectations 


Position Title: General Manager IT Operations


Position Summary

The General Manager (GM) is a member of the IT Operations and Corporate Products team and is responsible for product management and delivery for Technical Ops, System Ops, Flight Ops, Safety, Security and Centralized Publications.  The GM will collaborate with key matrix partners across the organization to drive product strategy, priorities, timelines, key performance metrics, designs, requirements, and user testing.  Additionally, the GM will work with other Product Owners, Enterprise Architecture, Data Services, Security, IT Systems Infrastructure and Networks, Release Mgmt. and IT Ops Support to delivery scalable, sustainable solutions that meet the business need.  The GM will is also responsible for the maintaining a strong relationship with all business partners within the portfolio.


The GM is comfortable with maintaining a public profile and building relationships throughout the organization. The Manager is also able to change priorities and focus to meet business demands, excels when working on complex projects, is motivated to deliver results, and exhibits the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun.

Essential Responsibilities

    • Oversee the strategy, design, implementation, deployment and ongoing development of the IT product portfolio and end-to-end support for the departments and functions listed above to effectively meet the business and information needs of the organization

    • Collaborate with business units to develop and oversee multi-year technology product roadmap

    • Manage relationships with external business partners inclusive of contract, budget, and delivery oversight.

    • Responsible for managing to the portfolio operating budget in order to ensure consistency with JetBlue’s cost goals.

    • Partner with IT Enterprise Security to ensure that security policies are followed and enforce. Establishes and maintain controls to safeguard sensitive data.

    • Lead respective IT group operations and planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.

    • Partner to deliver an IT Strategy and an annual plan to support the business functions aligned to the area of responsibly including a solution and / or application and / or platform services roadmap

    • Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth within area of the enterprise.

    • Ensure that JetBlue IT and business standards and procedures are maintained in accordance with Company policies and all audit, security and regulatory requirements

    • Lead and direct team and/or indirect Crewmembers to support the engagement, growth and development of Succession plan for the IT department

  • Provides 24/7 support for System Operations Center support functions

    • Other duties as assigned

      Minimum Experience and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline and/or demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities through five (5) previous years of experience and education

  • Five (5) years of Supervisory/Management experience

  • Three (3) years’ experience managing large portfolios or operating budgets and delivering large scale IT projects. 

  • Five (5)years related experience in leading a PMO organization to include portfolio management, project delivery, and business partner management 

  • Knowledge of technology fundamentals and concepts; Microsoft technologies preferred

    • Experience managing a budget

    • Experience managing a full project or initiative, including presenting recommendations to senior leadership

    • Thorough knowledge of business function and thorough knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies

    • Available for moderate overnight travel including (up to 35%)

  • Able to report to the Long Island City Support Center (LSC) within 2 hours of being notified.

  • Provide on-call support

    • In possession of valid travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States  

  • Able to work flexible hours and be available for emergency response on short notice

  • Able to pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test

  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

    Preferred Experience and Qualifications

    • Exposure to JetBlue’s IT disciplines and interdependencies and business units and how their needs drive IT strategy

    • Exposure to JetBlue’s

    • Demonstrated proficiency with enterprise and systems relating to system, airport, technical, flight operations, and safety and security operations.

    • Knowledge of IT Infrastructure including hardware/software, datacenter operations and operating systems

    • Demonstrated vulnerability and/or threat centric approach to managing risk

    • Strong knowledge of new and emerging operations technologies available in the market place and a proven ability to critically evaluate same.

    • Demonstrated ability to translate technical knowledge into business terms and present operational information to executive leadership.

    • Hands-on technologist:  In depth knowledge of system, airport, technical, flight operations, safety and security operations.

    • In depth knowledge of Incident Response, Incident Management, Forensics processes and technology.

    • Experience leading a team of technical and support engineers in a 24x7x365 environment.

      Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice

  • Well-groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance

  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Promote JetBlue’s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards

  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))

  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls

  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
