Flight Safety & Reliability Engineer - 1078116

Provides Safety, Reliability, and Maintainability (SRM) Engineering support by applying specialized engineering skills and knowledge. Responsible for technical review of Spaceflight Safety Data Packages, Hazard Reports, Non-Compliance Reports, and other supporting data. Assures that hazards and their consequences are identified, evaluated, and controlled throughout all phases of the mission and that Programmatic Safety requirements are met. Analyzes safety packages for Health and Medical related concerns and identifies discipline-specific issues which require the application of engineering knowledge from several different fields with relevant Subject Matter Experts. Familiarity with the principles of system safety. Represents the company and/or customer in outside discussions and technical forums. Works under general administrative and technical supervision. Incumbent will perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

• Plan, develop, and execute safety- and reliability-related project tasks, including Hazard Analysis and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis
• Prepare and conduct Safety Panel Reviews for assigned projects
• Participate in hardware design reviews
• Provide safety inputs to the project team throughout the system life cycle

• Review Safety Data Packages, presentations, Hazard Analyses, and other supporting data
• Provide technical comments and recommendations on Health and Medical related issues
• Support Health and Medical Technical Authority (HMTA) delegates or their representatives prepare for Safety Panel reviews
• Participate in and provide recommendations for Safety Panel Support task process improvements
• Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts across Human Health and Performance Directorate in providing technical reviews of safety documentation

Qualifications

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Required
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering field plus 0-2 years experience
Desired
• 0-2 years previous experience within NASA and/or JSC community
• 0-2 years previous experience in engineering projects for space-related systems
• 0-2 years previous experience in healthcare, life sciences, medical or related fields

SKILLS / TRAINING
Required

• Strong written and oral communication skills
• PC Skills in Microsoft SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Desired
• Probabilistic risk assessment / quantitative failure rate prediction methods
• Application of human factors considerations in system design
