Bilingual interviews will be conducted. You must be able to read, translate and speak Cantonese, Japanese, and/or Mandarin. Romanization reading is not acceptable (i.e. romaji for Japanese and pinyin for Chinese). You must be able to read either Traditional or Simplified Chinese characters and/or Japanese Kanji, Katakana and Hiragana.

The primary function of Hawaiian flight attendants is to ensure the safety of our guests while aboard Company aircraft, by being physically and psychologically capable of performing in the event of an emergency. In addition, flight attendants provide our guests with a consistent and prescribed level of customer service in the aircraft cabin during flight while providing an unsurpassed Aloha experience.

Flight Attendants work in a fast paced environment; they must be able to handle emergency situations and must be able to deal effectively with all types of personalities in an attentive and pleasant manner. Hawaiian Airlines reserves the right to modify or eliminate duties or requirements of the position consistent with business necessity, collective bargaining agreements and in accordance with applicable law.

Flight Attendants work in an environment subject to varying climatic conditions, variable positive and negative gravitational loads induced by turbulence, and varying levels of cabin pressurization. In addition, flight attendants are required to stand for up to four to seventeen hours, during which time stooping, twisting, and pulling and pushing cabin equipment may be necessary.

Flight attendants do not work a typical five day, forty hour workweek. Instead, they are generally scheduled to be on duty for one to six days, followed by days off prior to beginning another duty period. During duty periods, flight attendants spend their time away from home and are provided with overnight accommodations. Most flight attendants work approximately 75 or more flight hours per month, which most closely equates to a standard, full time work schedule.

Job Duties

  • Pleasantly greet and direct guests to their assigned seats and answer flight related questions
  • Provide a never ending Aloha experience as well as a high level of customer service while aboard the flight
  • Be pleasantly responsive to guest inquiries and requests
  • Provide Food and Beverage service consistently and as prescribed by procedure
  • Wear FA uniform in the manner prescribed by the company on a consistent basis
  • Serve as brand ambassadors for Hawaiian Airlines and always represent the principles of aloha, malama, and ho’okipa
  • Have sufficient visual and aural capacity to communicate, comprehend and implement written and verbal instructions in English
  • Assist guests with stowing carry-on luggage in overhead compartments or underneath cabin seats.
  • Secure and unsecure main cabin doors, requires power grasping.
  • Demonstrate use of safety equipment (e.g., seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets) and emergency procedures prior to take-off
  • Re-stock beverage carts as necessary by lifting beverage or liquor kits weighing between 12 and 35 pounds from floor level to waist high, or from shoulder level to waist high
  • Push and pull beverage carts weighing up to 250 pounds, which may require 40-45 pounds of push/pull force to maneuver
  • Serves meals on trays or in containers (each weighing about 2 pounds) and beverages to guests and flight deck crew during flight
  • Collect and reconcile payments for various onboard products such as; alcoholic beverages, meals, duty free sales, etc.
  • Administer first aid, if necessary
  • Make written and verbal reports of emergency/safety incidents occurring during flight
  • You will be required to work during some Holidays/Birthdays/Special events until your seniority allows you to do otherwise
  • Assist ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members
  • Evacuate the aircraft in heavy, dense smoke during a cabin fire
  • Handle and operate oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers
  • Remove and lift emergency cabin windows (weighing up to 60 pounds)
  • Jump down the emergency slide from height of approximately 24.5 feet

All of the job duties, including the emergency duties, outlined above are essential functions of the flight attendant position.

  • Able to proficiently read, translate and speak Cantonese, Japanese and/or Mandarin. 
  • Must be able to read Traditional or Simplified Chinese and/or Japanese Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana.  A Romanized version (i.e. Romaji or Pinyin) is not acceptable. 
  • Able to read, write, and speak English proficiently
  • Two years of direct customer experience in the hospitality or airline industry, OR four years of customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in industries such as retail, education, health care, and/or professional services.
  • Must be 21 years old
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and ability to effectively diffuse and resolve difficult customer situations
  • Able to work effectively with other colleagues to deliver a high level of customer service to Hawaiian Airlines' passengers.
  • Able to secure and unsecure main cabin doors, requires power grasping (counter-balanced doors weigh between 91 and 126 pounds)
  • Successfully complete an FAA-approved, unpaid seven week intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines
  • Satisfactorily complete annual FAA-approved re-certification provided by Hawaiian Airlines
  • Possess the ability to learn and maintain current knowledge and competency of emergency procedures in accordance with Hawaiian and FAA’s Regulations
  • Present a professional image. May not have visible body art (including tattoos), facial, multiple or upper ear piercing, gauge piercings, or extreme hair color or style while in the Flight Attendant Uniform and while in any physical position in public areas
  • Able to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental U.S.
  • Able to be present to work alternative schedules, including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Able to work in climates and locations across the globe and work variable shifts
  • Able to fly at high altitudes
  • Able to lift and store carry-on baggage and items (weighing between 18-35 pounds) to overhead bins or underneath seats and remove items from overhead bins or underneath seats to passengers.
  • Able to push and pull beverage carts, weighing up to 250 pounds, which may require 40-45 pounds of push/pull force to maneuver
  • High school diploma, or GED equivalent; college education or degree preferred
  • Vertical Reach of 82”
  • Successfully pass tuberculosis (TB) test
  • Successfully pass pre-employment drug test**
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to secure applicable visas for travel to countries served by Hawaiian Airlines
  • Must possess the legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines
  • Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment

    ** DOT regulations, 14 CFR part 120 identifies this position as performing safety-sensitive functions.
