UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.
Candidate will be responsible for Supervising a group in the Space Systems, Windsor Locks, CT (SSWL) Manufacturing Engineering functional group, supervising up to 10 Manufacturing Engineering (Mechanical and Electrical disciplines) associates. The Manufacturing Engineering functional group is responsible for determining manufacturing methods and writing manufacturing assembly documentation in order to assemble high quality, highly engineered hardware for use in space and sea applications, while complying with all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety requirements as well as all applicable Quality requirements. The candidate will have overall accountability to ensure all program hardware is manufacturable. The candidate will be responsible for meeting all staffing needs, budgets and schedules while supporting the Integrated Product Development Team model and will be to implement Lean Manufacturing and the creation of a cellular manufacturing environment within the SSWL labs and to instill a Design To Cost mind-set. Candidate will provide leadership in meeting SSWL business unit targets/objectives and functional objectives and support the department’s quality, procedural and audit needs. A major portion of the position will be to determine, implement and lead process improvement opportunities, business unit initiatives and corrective actions. Candidate will lead efforts to understand non-conformances and reduce Cost of Poor Quality.
* The candidate will have SAP experience as it relates to processing hardware throughout the build cycle including developing routers and estimating touch time.
* Strong knowledge of ACE and demonstrated use of all the ACE tools is required, including leading 3P events
* Value Stream Mapping events
* implementing Process Certification.
* Must be able to coach and mentor associates.

Education: BS in Engineering with 5-7 years of experience desired. MBA or advanced Engineering degree is desired.
