The Director of Quality Control / Chief Inspector is the 14 CFR 119.65 delegate and is responsible for ensuring Company aircraft are maintained in accordance with Company manuals and Federal Aviation Regulations. The Director of Quality Control is the direct liaison between the Company and the FAA for the Technical Operations Department. He/She ensures compliance of Spirit Airlines CAMP in accordance with all applicable Regulations and Operations Specifications to meet or exceed legal and safety standards for all operating aircraft and parts. Assumes an active role in defining the quality standards for the inspection program to meet or exceed the criteria established by the airline maintenance program.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Serves as the primary interface with the FAA on airworthiness regulatory matters.
  • Serves as the FAR 119.65 Chief Inspector who is accountable for all actions related to airworthiness.
  •  Serves as the Manual Administrator for Operations Specifications (Part D and Part E).
  •  Administrates the Airworthiness Directives program and overall enforcement of ADs.
  •  Provides expertise to company management by keeping current on all regulatory policies, procedures and FAA guidance.
  • Assumes an authoritative role in investigations of all incidents, and occurrences of non- compliance and Ensures investigations are conducted in a consistent manner to effectively prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinates corrective actions to resolution on internal policy\procedure and regulatory findings by interfacing with all related stakeholders.
  • Established policies, procedures, controls and process measurements for the effective operation of the Quality Control and Maintenance Departments.
  • Directly responsible for the authorization and administration of required Inspection Items (RII) accomplished upon Company aircraft.
  • Execute final authority with respect to any issues associated with the airworthiness of an aircraft, component, or associated method of Compliance with an airworthiness directive or any maintenance action.
  • Administers and monitors the Quality Control, Weight and Balance, SDR and Inspection Programs in accordance with published airline manuals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Technical Operations.


Required Skills and Certificates/Licenses/Designations:

  • Four-year college degree desired, preferably in Aviation.
  • Meet the requirements of 119.67(d)
  • Hold a mechanic certificate with both airframe and powerplant ratings, and have held these ratings for at least 3 years;
  • Have at least 3 years of maintenance experience on different types of large airplanes with 10 or more passenger seats with an air carrier or certificated repair station, 1 year of which must have been as maintenance inspector; and
  • Have at least 1 year of experience in a supervisory capacity maintaining the same category and class of aircraft as the certificate holder uses
  • Basic computer programming and ops specs experience preferred
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs, including database and spreadsheet programs.
  • Proficient verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
