The Director of Airport Affairs will bring value to Spirit by maximizing lease rights via active negotiation, management of/with airport authorities and commercial landlords while managing costs of the portfolio.  Responsible for portfolio strategy development and implementation of the acquisition of airport & commercial assets.  Financial and administrative management of entire Spirit real estate portfolio guiding portfolio managers.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Influence Airport Authorities, Other Airlines and Aviation Industry:  successfully work with Airport Authorities to minimize O&M budgets and make thoughtful capital investments to control airport rates while maintaining acceptable facility/service levels; Ensure Spirit’s interests are maintained for all airport authority capital projects based on Spirit’s strategic objectives;  Establish and Maintain spirit’s positive reputation with the airports and other aviation entities to further spirit’s strategic objectives. 
  • Identify and Implement Cost Savings:  Perform analysis and modeling of financial impacts of space and rate changes on overall lease economics;  Negotiate and administer contracts, leases, subleases, use and operating agreements, consortium agreements (fuel, terminal services, etc) with airports and other commercial and retail property landlords and coordinate internal approvals of leases.  Bring creative ideas to senior management to drive cost savings (e.g., Signatory Agreements).
  • Strategic Portfolio Development:  develop plan for strategic asset acquisition of airport and commercial real estate based on route strategy.  Leverage existing industry relationships and develop additional relationships in pursuit of this strategy.  Utilize political contacts and work with government affairs to achieve a “spirit Bias” in competitive markets.  Advise senior leadership on opportunities and challenges in the system providing recommendations on best course of action to achieve objections.
  • Coaching and Mentoring:  Manage diverse staff to create opportunities for cost savings, on-time deliverables, and facility reliability.  Develop future leaders for Spirit.


Required skills/experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business (Finance, Accounting), Aviation, Construction or related field.  JD or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 - 10 years’ experience in aviation, real estate, or finance.
  • AAAE or ACI-NA Certifications preferred.
  • Possess the ability to serve as the representative of Spirit Airlines in meetings with airports and other carriers to promote Spirit’s interest and operations requirements.
  • Ability to travel in excess of 50%
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
