Title Director, Network Planning

Purpose: Utilize the most current and effective techniques in the creation, planning, and development of Spirit Airlines and its route network, while considering the long-term ramifications of all short-term decisions. Craft and implement an exceptional route, network, and schedule strategy.

  • Profitable Network Plan: Develop and implement strategies for optimizing the airline’s network. Analyze financial
    and operational impact of proposed changes to the network plan. Generate P&L estimates for network with each statistical update. Estimate impact of industry trends on Spirit network and recommend response to improve profitability. Maintain and update a rolling 12 month network plan statistics and revenue forecasts. Present network plan and strategy to senior management team.
  • New Cities and Routes: Forecast and prioritize selection of new cities and routes. Continuously review opportunities using the latest available data and industry intelligence for revenue and cost projections. Recommend capacity changes to improve margin performance on a route by route basis by season.
  • Build Industry Relationships: Interact extensively with internal (operations, maintenance, finance, etc.) and external participants (airports, government entities, industry organizations, consultants, etc.) to facilitate network growth and information flow through relationships built over time. Effectively communicate Spirit’s ultra-low cost strategy to all parties. Assist other internal departments with statistical analysis and/or data refinements.

Basic Requirements:  

  1. Excellent understanding of airline economics.
  2. Familiarity with industry applications such as the US DOT O&D Survey, T-100, Form 41, and other data sources used in forecasting and analysis.
  3. Experience in Economic Modeling is a plus.
  4. Occasional travel for multiple days by plane and car.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in economics, statistics, or business administration or related field 
  2. Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in manager or director – level positions in a commercial airline
  3. Master's Degree/MBA in related field preferred.
