Description: Inspects cones (includes inner race and rollers) for conformity to customer and Association of American Railroads specifications, using measuring instruments. Also, examines cones for defects such as cracks, water etchings, nicks, etc. Repairs minor defects. Cleans, deburrs, polishes, or grinds items of metal using a hand grinder, wire brush or buffing cloth. Rejects or re-grades products not meeting specifications. Inputs information covering materials scrapped or salvaged into the computer terminal. Assist in the assembly of cups and cones prior to the lateral operation; if required. Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or company management.
Overall Purpose: Visually inspect products for conformity to customer specifications.
1. Examines product for defects such as cracks, water etchings, spalls or nicks.
2. Marks defective areas.
3. Rejects or re-grades products not meeting specifications.
4. Places reject and remanufacture materials in appropriate location.
5. Performs other inspection work as certified.
Physical Demands & Frequency: Requires medium to heavy lifting, standing, reaching, handling, fingering, and near acuity.
A. Position: Standing.
B. Weights & Force: 10-21 pounds 600 times a day.
C. Use of Controls: Use of various feeler gauge and hand grinder.
D. Vision must be normal (20/20). Correctional lenses are acceptable.
General Educational Development: Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Information may be presented in written, oral or diagrammatic form and requires a common sense understanding to be applied in order to carry out the instructions.
