Job Title: Closing Press Operator
Description: Unloads work pieces from containers onto platform/table for preparation to close cages. Sets up and operates power press that shapes or assembles metal, by crimping, shaping, locking, staking, or press fitting. Aligns work piece against fixtures under ram as specified. Operates controls operate ram that shapes parts, presses parts together, separates parts, or compresses parts preparatory to assembly. May tend machine equipped with multiple rams or automatic positioning device. As required, operates semi-automatic machine or manually loads cage with roller bearings for cone re-assembly prior to closing cages. Inspects cage for conformity to specification using gauges, calipers or other devices.
Overall Purpose: Set up and operate power press that shapes or assembles metal by crimping, shaping, locking, staking or press fitting.
1. Loads rollers into cages manually or by using semi-automatic loading machines..
2. Sets up closing press by changing dies based on order specifications.
3. Unloads cone assemblies from containers and loads work onto roll conveyer
4. Aligns work piece against fixtures under ram as specified.
5. Moves controls to lower ram that shapes parts or presses parts together.
6. Inspects assembled part for cage conformity to required specifications.
7. Performs minor maintenance work on equipment.
Physical Demands & Frequency: Requires lifting up to 40 pounds; reaching, lifting, pushing/pulling, feeling and near acuity.
A. Position: Standing/walking and pushing/pulling/lifting – 80%, bending– 20%.
B. Weights & Force: Up to 40 pounds.
C. Use of Controls: Operates cone press controls requiring both hands.
D. Vision must be normal (20/20). Correctional lenses are acceptable.
General Educational Development: Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed by uninvolved written or oral instructions
Qualifications: Candidate shall successfully complete training program and as applicable, qualification requirements, as defined by the responsible functional manager. New hires shall demonstrate satisfactory performance during new hire probationary period.
Training: On the job training up to 6 months.
Aptitudes: Requires motor coordination, ambulatory capability, finger dexterity and manual dexterity.
Temperaments: Must be able to perform repetitive or short-cycled work.
Environmental Conditions: Frequent impact noise, seasonal heat.
Protective Clothing and Personal Devices: Safety glasses and safety shoes.
