Boeing is seeking qualified candidates to join its Applied Mathematics organization to help lead in evaluating, creating and applying operations research/optimization algorithms and tools in solving business problems to reduce costs and cycle times and enhance the quality of Boeing products, processes and services.
The Applied Mathematics organization comprises the most concentrated group of mathematicians in Boeing. They conduct research & development and provide consulting for business units on a wide variety of mathematical technologies, including operations research/optimization.
The Applied Mathematician interprets and formulates complex problems in mathematical terms. Develops algorithms, acquires and implements software to solve operations research/optimization problems. Codes, tests and maintains mathematical software tools. Transitions tools developed to internal Boeing customers. Communicates complex techniques and results effectively to audience of varying technical abilities. Assists with mathematical research and the development of research proposals. Influences colleagues and internal Boeing customers to use mathematical tools and processes.
This position requires an active (or ability to obtain) U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Technical bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' or a PhD degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A technical degree is defined as any four year degree, or greater, in a mathematic, scientific or information technology field of study.
* Requires education or experience in optimization or operations research or demonstrated ability to develop mathematical skills in these areas quickly, based on education and experience in another field.
* Requires knowledge of operations research or optimization including theoretical and numerical methods for nonlinear optimization and experience with publicly available software packages.
* Requires excellent communication skills, the ability to adapt to changing environments and work statements and work in multidisciplinary teams and be a self-starter.
* Ability to manage several simultaneous projects effectively and across various geographical locations.
* Have a passion to apply mathematics to solve hard industrial problems.
* Strongly prefer doctorate (or MS with experience) in optimization, applied mathematics, or operations research.
* Knowledge of Multidisciplinary Design Optimization and surrogate modeling is desirable.
* Prefer good software programming skills and knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Java and Python, Gurobi and COIN-OR tools such as CBC and BONMIN.
