The Revenue Management Strategy & Analysis teams manage a wide range of projects that impact the entire Revenue Management organization. This Analyst/Senior Analyst position will primarily be responsible for project-based assignments that require a mix of strong analytical skills, the aptitude to solve complex problems and the ability to clearly and concisely present information. This position will require ownership, the ability to work well with minimal supervision and the ability to prioritize and manage a number of projects simultaneously.

Position Specific Qualifications

The Retail and Product Strategy team is responsible for the product strategy of American’s travel-related products, encompassing our fare brands (Basic Economy, Main Cabin, Premium Economy, First, etc.) and our à la carte ancillary products (Main Cabin Extra, Preferred Seats, Paid Upgrades, Change Fees, Same Day Flight Change, Baggage, Priority, etc.). The team is also responsible for the pricing and performance of our ancillary products, in addition to managing the ancillary product strategy. The Retail and Product Strategy team’s primary mission is to bring our long-term product strategy to life in three key ways:

1. Deliver new products to market, while managing current products and a holistic product portfolio strategy

2. Develop and maintain our 3-/5-year comprehensive retail and product strategy

3. Inform what we are selling and to whom we are selling

Currently the team has two openings:

1. Product owner for Basic Economy to manage Basic Economy’s product strategy and performance, while coordinating with the broader American commercial organization and key airline partners

2. Strategy analyst to lead the development of our 3-/5-year retail, customer and product strategy across the entire portfolio of American’s products (fares brands and ancillaries)

The successful candidate will:

* Collaborate on the design of new ancillary products and the re-imagining of current offerings with the goal of providing the greatest value to American and our customers

* Forecast passenger demand, implement price tests, estimate demand elasticity, and analyze product performance to ensure American sells the right product to the right customer at the right time, fully utilizing available assets

* Partner closely with Merchandising Strategy, Customer Planning, Ancillary IT, Customer Insight & Loyalty (AADV), Sales, Joint Business Partners, Alliances, and other Revenue Management teams

* Present original analysis and strategies to senior management, design scalable business processes, and manage ad hoc projects related to the airline’s strategic goals

Job Qualifications

* BS/BA degree with significant coursework or experience in a quantitative discipline (economics, mathematics, engineering, finance, etc.); Graduate degree value

* Strong quantitative, analytical, technical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a focus on collaboration and problem solving across multiple departments

* Refined skills with MS Office; familiarity with software programs used in conducting quantitative analysis (SAS, R, Tableau, PowerPivot, etc.); SQL query writing ability preferred; Pricing tools knowledge (ATPCO, NexGEN, AirPrice) advantageous

* Demonstrated analytical skills, including the ability to assemble information, extract pertinent facts, build robust data models, draw logical conclusions, and present recommendations

* Prior experience in Airline Passenger Yield Management, Pricing, Network Planning, Sales Strategy, Network Planning, Customer Insight, or Finance strongly preferred

* Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively summarize findings and present recommendations to Senior Management

* Ability to develop and adhere to timelines, manage projects with minimal supervision, and work well in team environment

* A bias for action through intelligent risk taking, innovation and entrepreneurship

* Ability to travel to meet with key internal and external stakeholders if necessary
