Maintains A-10 aircraft under limited supervision. Coordinates maintenance activities with Mechanic II section/production personnel.
Uses schematic diagrams, drawings, charts and technical publication in operating, testing, removing, troubleshooting and replacing aircraft system components.
Complies with the requirements of the FOD prevention, housekeeping, tool control, environmental and safety programs.
Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
Performs the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily, may service engines and airframe components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition, may specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, and may specialize in engine repair.
Performs aircraft conditional inspections including, but not limited to, 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, examines reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listens to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burnt valves.
Performs all required aircraft servicing tasks.
Operates ground support equipment and documents/reports discrepancies prior to use.
Performs all tasks associated with ground movement of aircraft.
Completes all necessary manual and automated records required by USAF and Company directives.
Orders parts and supplies as needed.
Follows technical data, manuals, regulations, and other maintenance directives as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Participates in towing and movement of aircraft in performing maintenance activities.
Knowledge & Skills
A working knowledge of jet aircraft systems and of the use of common aircraft hand tools and special tools is required.
A working knowledge of aircraft maintenance safety requirements and the operation of portable fire-fighting equipment are required.
Special Certifications Desired:
APU Operation, Engine Run Qualified, Clear In-Process Inspections on A-10 Primary AFSC and Clear Red X on A-10 Primary AFSC.
Special Certifications Required:
Inlet, Intake & Exhaust Inspector, Tow Team Supervisor, Sign All Condition Tags, and Sign Not Reparable This Station tags.
Experience & Education
Eighteen (18) months of general aircraft maintenance experience is required.
One (1) year experience in the past three (3) calendar years on A-10 aircraft is required.
Technicians who do not meet minimum experience requirements have 180 days from the date of hire to complete the corresponding 5-Level core tasks as listed in the Site Training Business Area 2A353 Air Force Specialty Code Master Training Plan.
Completion of high school or the equivalent is required.
Completion of specialized courses is desired.
The ability to read and write and to comprehend technical data is required.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Must be able to lift a minimum weight of 50 lbs.
Stand for prolonged periods of time.
Have the ability to climb ladders and stairs.
Normal color vision is required.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is necessary to obtain flight line driving privileges.
May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
