Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards and HR Systems, this position is responsible for administering the GTAA Disability Management Program to ensure the accurate and timely provision of early intervention services, short and long-term disability claims and WSIB claims in accordance with established plans, policies, procedures and collective agreement provisions. This position determines the eligibility of claims and ensures compliance with requirements. This position collaborates with benefit providers, Managers, Human Resource Advisors and others in the processing of claims and resolutions of related issues, and will act as a subject matter expert for Managers across the organization.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

* Collaborate with short and long-term disability providers, WSIB, Managers/Supervisors and Human Resources to co-ordinate return to work provisions including modified work schedules, workplace accommodation, determining changes to assigned duties and exploring light duties and transitional work opportunities

* Monitor length of sick leave entitlements, gap periods, and eligibility dates for disability programs

* Process all WSIB claims and prepare Form 7’s in coordination with Managers

* Provide updates on WSIB claims to appropriate stakeholders

* Process WSIB appeal notifications, co-ordinate responses with others and provide claims information to WSIB as required

* Provide information regarding disability management program to employees, explaining the programs, policies and procedures

* Participate in the development of communication materials and related program initiatives to educate employees on disability management programs

* Attend meetings, conduct information sessions/presentations and prepare written communication materials

* Maintain confidentiality, accuracy and integrity in the collection, processing and maintenance of disability information in accordance with company policies

* Review monthly claim cost statements for billing accuracy

* Initiate employee status change information in Kronos and Oracle; provide updates on claims to Human Resource Advisors, payroll/HRIS, and health and safety teams

* Liaise with service providers and the WSIB in the effective provisioning of disability services, discussing disability claims and/or accommodation issues

* Prepare and maintain disability management statistical information including the preparation and formatting of charts, spreadsheets and presentations in order to effectively communicate results

* Conduct work in a manner that prevents further injuries and incidents and maintain knowledge and understanding of safety policies, practices and procedures

Job Requirements


* University degree or college diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience

* Five (5) years’ experience in the absence management field, with emphasis on disability management, rehabilitation services, return to work support services and partnerships with vendors and other external suppliers

* Excellent practical knowledge in assessing and managing disability claims in a holistic framework

* Must be able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Strong knowledge of disability and absence management best practices

* High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills

* Strong written communication skills demonstrating the highest of professional standards

* Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills to partner effectively with all stakeholders

* In-depth knowledge and/or understanding of disability management procedures

* Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement, tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature

* Strong ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

* Effective time management skills to prioritize and complete assignments within demanding work schedules

* Demonstrated ability to research, compile and analyze information

* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

* Demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve problems

* Solid computer skills with knowledge of Kronos, Oracle and advanced knowledge of MS Suite
