UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.
ISR & Space Systems Windsor Locks is looking for energetic and highly motivated candidates for its Engineering Organization. The primary responsibility of an Advanced Systems and Technologies Research Engineer is to conduct applied research and development in the field of space and undersea life support systems. Senior Research Engineers have overall responsibility for their internally funded research and development projects, including creation of yearly project plans, management of technical progress, budget, and schedule. They conduct hands-on work in close coordination with full time technicians in the Advanced Engineer Laboratory to advance technologies from the proof-of-concept stage up to fully functional prototypes for flight experiments. In addition, they may lead customer funded research projects and serve as technical experts for the spaceflight and Navy programs within the department. The Chemical Engineering position focuses on air and water purification, closed loop life support systems, and electrochemical processes.
Minimum of 10 years in pertinent engineering development, R&D, and laboratory work with emphasis in air and water purification. Candidate should have a solid understanding of sorption and chemical conversion technologies such as the use of charcoal for trace organic removal, catalytic oxidation, carbon dioxide removal and reduction, multifiltration, and ion exchange. Familiarity with electrochemical processes such as electrolysis and fuel cells is also desired. Additional skills of use in the laboratory include HPVee and Labview programming, and experience with electromechanical actuation (valves, mass flow controllers, stepper motors, etc.).
Must be a U.S. Citizen or US Person must either hold a current US DoD clearance or must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance if required, and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
