Job Description

We are currently seeking a Technical Author for our client based on the South Coast in the UK to produce clear, concise, accurate and technically verified information, instructions and support data for all Company products and, if required, for third party organisations.


Main Tasks:

1. To write Technical, Operational, Maintenance and Repair information and instructions. This information is to be written in simple, clear, accurate, concise and logical form compatible with other related information to permit safe and correct operation of Company products.

2. To prepare and manage own project plans and co-ordinate with the Technical Publications team to complete project packages within detailed timescale and budget constraints.

3. To liaise with other departments and organisations to exchange relevant technical information.

4. To ensure that all work is approved, validated (where necessary) and vetted for quality, technical accuracy and verification prior to print and issue.

5. Any other duties commensurate with the tasks and responsibilities of the job.


Skills and abilities
Review, interpret and assess the content of all Design, Test, Technical Data Reports, Customer options, Service Bulletins and Technical Queries, for inclusion in the maintenance publications.

A comprehensive knowledge of aeronautical engineering plus a full understanding of technical publications standards, specifications, procedures and production processes.

Specialist knowledge
Must be familiar with, and be able to interpret and apply the following specifications:

- Air Transport Association (ATA) 100 and AeroSpace and Defense (ASD) S1000D for Manufacturers Technical Documentation
- Association Européenne des Constructeurs de Matérial Aérospatial (AECMA) 2000M and ATA 2100 (Digital Data Standards for Initial Provisioning and Aircraft Support)
- AvP70
- Def Stan 00/60
- AECMA Simplified English

Experience
A comprehensive knowledge of aeronautical engineering plus a full understanding of technical publications standards, specifications, procedures and production processes.

Familiarity with Computer and Database applications, Word Processing and Desk Top Publishing packages including MS Windows, Adobe FrameMaker and the use of SGML (Standard Generalised Mark-up Language) with electronically structured documents.

Knowledge of Mechanical, Electro/Mechanical, Electrical and Avionic systems, preferably in an Aviation environment.


Education/Qualifications
Engineering Apprenticeship and be educated to a minimum of ONC/HNC level, or equivalent.

Supervisory/Management training is also necessary, together with formal Technical Authorship Training to C&G 536 part 1 and 2 standard.
