Senior Safety Consultant - Defence, Aerospace, Airport and Air Traffic Management - Engineering Consultancy, Surrey
Safety and Supportability is at the cutting edge of defence and our client offers 'through-life' support to the MoD and equipment manufacturers, providing independent and unbiased recommendations. Do to a high demand for their expertise our client requires a highly experienced Senior Safety Consultant to join their growing team of Safety experts working in the Defence, Aerospace, Airport and Air Traffic Management domains.
Safety and Supportability is divided into four key areas: Safety engineering , Supportability, Training Needs Analysis and Human factors. The Senior Safety Consultant will be working across different disciplines and striving to minimise risk, whether from equipment failures, human error or external factors. In terms of supportability, you would be assessing the reliability of systems and optimising support to maintain reliability in the long term.
The Senior Safety Consultant will be working closely with clients either in the office or on client site, primarily engaged in land, sea and air defence projects, and you will be required to both work independently and manage a team conducting Safety Analysis, developing safety arguments for novel and complex avionic systems and be able to clearly and concisely justify that argument to both internal and external customers. The role is both technically and commercially challenging and the successful candidate will be expected to be able to work under their own guidance and interact with customers at a high level.
You will also be expected to be heavily involved in generating new work, bid preparation, presentation skills and an understanding of commercial issues is required. Other responsibilities include the development of innovative solutions to customer problems drawing on best practice from the many domains of the company and beyond; undertake internal Project Management role on major projects with responsibilities for understanding customer requirements, developing proposals(technical & commercial), planning & management of activities and assurance of the outputs.
Experience of civil and military safety and airworthiness standards is essential.
Applicants for this position must have the right to work in the UK without restriction and should also have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
MEng or MSc in Safety Engineering or Technical Discipline or equivalent experience
A Chartered Engineer probably with RAES, IET or SARS
Experience of working within Defence, Aerospace, Air Traffic or other relevant safety related sectors
Knowledge of the following standards is essential: DO-178B, DO-254, ARP4754/4761, Def Stan 00-56 & CS25
The application of Safety Legislation and Standards and be able to clearly and concisely explain their implication to customer's activities
Conducting/ Facilitating Hazard Identification using such techniques as HAZOPS, SWIFT, Functional Failure Analysis, etc.
Conducting Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment
Managing Safety programmes and implementing Safety Management Systems
The creation and maintenance of Safety Cases and Safety Case Reports, detailing the safety activities conducted, the level of Risk attained and justifying the ALARP-type arguments developed
Security Clearance to at least SC level without restrictions prior to appointment.
