Job Description

Manufacturing Systems Engineering Team Leader

To be responsible for specifying, designing, realising and improving new and existing manufacturing solutions for Aviation products. To lead the team and manage the required deliverables through a proactive, project based approach to working. To develop and maintain the improvement roadmap and ensure that Aviation production methods are world-class.

Key duties:
To be responsible for actively leading the team in the delivery of improvement activities such as value stream mapping, kaizen, six sigma and SPC control, both on the shop floor and along with Supplier Development, in the supply chain.
To create, maintain and become accountable for KPI / statistics in terms of manufacturing system development status, adherence to schedule, spend and quality and also ongoing system capacity and performance.
To develop the technical capability, knowledge management and configuration management tools of the team. Foster a productive working climate, promote cross-functional teaming through product development and improvement activities and embed improvement through the DFM process.
To be responsible for continued development and improvement in process automation. Machining and tooling items are to be developed concurrently for new programmes.
To be responsible for input into MRP system of routings and standards.
To be accountable for the new product introduction process, from conception to hand-over to shop floor, along with training and documentation. To ensure that handover is completed in a timely and efficient manner through the PRR process.
To manage and advise direct reports on day-to-day HR issues, including recruitment, PDRs, generating and maintaining high morale, maintaining and controlling attendance records, discipline, good employee relations and communications.
To be responsible for mentoring, training and providing support to the team. To adhere to and improve business processes.

Essential
Degree / HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Systems Engineering or equivalent and at extensive hands on experience gained in high-mix, low-volume, high-value industry, with substantial experience in a supervisory role
Experience of a pivotal role in process planning and integration from concept to production during product introduction
Proven responsibility for the engineering / production interfaces and of BOM management, the setting of routings and standards configuration and control in MRP
Previous experience of capacity planning and monitoring
Experienced in the application of value stream mapping and other lean tools and leading lean improvement activities
Knowledgeable in advanced mechanical. Electro-mechanical and electronic design and assembly techniques
Experience in driving and measuring real improvement in supplier performance
Project management experience including schedule, work and cost identification and tracking
Experience of validating and verifying that the process and system meet the product, production, legislation and business requirements and taking part in design reviews
Experienced in the use of Excel and other Microsoft Office products to producing easy to follow statistics and reports
Proficient in the use of MRP and setting up of parameters
Experience of CAD software
Experience in reviewing existing manufacturing and business processes and benchmarking them against best practice in lean manufacturing
Experience of co-ordinating engineering activities
Experience of leading meetings and agreeing actions with peers
Interested in self development and the development of others
Experienced in working with customers, suppliers and other company departments
Able to communicate with different levels of staff
Experience of making presentations to customers and suppliers
Experienced in report writing
Approachable, able to listen and give direction to others
Diligent with good attention to detail
Good interpersonal skills, persuasive and assertive
Previous experience of leading teams of engineers / technicians
Driven to learn new skills
Experienced in manufacturing business process and practice
Understands the importance of satisfying both internal and external customers
An understanding of the need for the business to be profitable
Current full driving licence
Prepared to work extra hours and be called out of hours as required to meet business needs
Prepared and able to travel regularly within the UK and occasionally overseas

Desirable
Learn or continuous improvement belt / course / certificate
Certificate in management / team leading
Knowledge of Avionics design and manufacturing practices
Use of SAP
Use of MS Project
Management skills
Knowledge of Avionics production practices
Knowledge of Aviation design requirements
