Our customer is a world leader in the manufacture of composite components for the Aerospace industry.
They are seeking to appoint a Project Engineer to work in a specialist research facility located in the South West of the UK.
Purpose
To control and direct projects within the Aerospace Composite Research Centres, guiding and developing staff working on R & D projects, contributing towards peer review of projects across the group to benchmark technical progress and buy-off essential developments.
Key Accountabilities
Actively participate in coaching and training others for the wider dissemination and awareness of accrued knowledge.
Support the creation of the technology strategy designed to underpin the company Aerospace strategic plan
To develop a strong understanding of and alignment with Customers product strategies
To gather inputs from all stakeholders associated with defining future products, including Business Unit General Managers, Business Development, Chief Engineers and Customer Account Managers
Interface with the company Aerospace technology clusters i.e. Metallic's, Composites and Niche
Identification and initiation of technology projects
To establish the sponsorship, resourcing and leadership approach for each project to ensure the achievement of Cost, Quality and Delivery imperatives
Management of the Technology technical review processes
To introduce gated Project Management and Technology Readiness Level processes
Governance of the technology budget
Providing progress reporting and communication material
To foster a culture of innovation and technology.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Engineering degree or equivalent in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or similar.
Applicants should have extensive expertise in composite materials and designing, developing and commissioning manufactured solutions
Ability to develop technical projects and solutions,
Previously acted as a R & D technology lead and demonstrates a proven track record in the delivery of multi disciplined teams with a flexible approach to involvement in all aspects of development
Previous experience in acting as the engineering interface with customers both internal and external and other collaborative partners is essential
Demonstrate extensive leadership experience across multi disciplined Engineers teams and as part of an engineering leadership team.
Provide interface with the broader company Technology organisation
This is a key leadership role within the organisation, requiring an individual with first class influencing abilities up to and including board level.
A strong mind and commitment plus the ability to embody & engage people in the delivery of the company vision.
You will also need the ability to work successfully at a senior level within a matrix managed business, able to influence without legitimate authority
You must be prepared to work on the complete range of company Aerospace programmes, both civil and military
You must be able to travel as required by the position including internationally.
Experience in Metallic, Composite, Plastic and Niche technology areas is essential.
Use of CATIA V4 or V5 surfacing and modelling design packages
Use of NC Packages
Use of software for numerical simulation of processes
Use of software packages related to design and manufacturing within composite materials
