Job Description


Purpose of the Job

To lead the design team and work with the certification team to deliver OEM/Aftermarket projects/programmes.

Organisational Reporting

This role reports directly to the Engineering Director for the Structures Business and is responsible for a local management team consisting of the following leading roles:

  • § Graduate Design Engineers
  • § Design Engineers
  • § Senior Design Engineers
  • § Lead Design Engineers

Network & Relationships

Internal:

  • § Design and Certification Engineers
  • § Lead Engineers
  • § Certification Director
  • § Engineering Director


External:

  • § Customers
  • § Suppliers

Key Responsibilities

  • § Manage daily, all engineers (design & certification), with support from lead engineer and Certification Manager
  • § Responsible for designs within Integrated Project Teams for all OEM and Aftermarket projects/programmes
  • § Training, coaching and developing all engineers
  • § Capacity planning all workload within the department
  • § Ensure all designs packages are delivering BOM, weight, build hour and milestone targets
  • § Design and approve galley structures drawings
  • § Ensure the shop floor are supported by engineering, resolving issues and improving the design to minimize build hrs and BOM costs
  • § Develop the systems and procedures within the department to create a Lean' environment supporting the approach of minimal lead-time for NPI and HoV
  • § Ensure innovation is at the forefront of all engineering solutions


Hours of Work

39 hours per week - Semi Flexible

Core hours Monday to Thursday, 09.00 to 16.30.

Core hours Fridays, 09.00 to 12.30.

Additional 7.5 flexible hours to be worked each week.

Flexible hours can be worked Monday to Wednesday between:

07.30 to 09.00

16.30 to 18.00

Flexible hours can be worked on Thursday between:

07.30 to 09.00

16.30 to 19.00

Flexible hours can be worked on Friday between:

07.30 and 09.00

12.30 and 14.00

Holiday Entitlement

25 days per annum plus bank holidays

Travel %

 0-10%

Educational Requirements

  • § The suitable applicant will posses an engineering degree

Knowledge / Experience

  • § The suitable applicant will possess an engineering background in aircraft products gained in the design office of an aerospace component manufacturer and have a working knowledge of one of the current 3D design software packages.
  • § Familiarity with FAA and EASA regulations is essential and Boeing and Airbus working practices would be expected

Technical Skills / Competencies

  • Ability to motivate and manage a engineering department
  • A Can Do' attitude delivering change with the products and processes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and all internal departments.
  • Creative in solutions supporting both the company and the customer
  • Strong Team Member
