Job Description

Landing Gear Structures Analysis Engineer - Series aircraft

To be part of a team of engineers responsible for the structural analysis (Stress, Stiffness, Fatigue & Damage tolerance) integrity of landing gears and associated equipment.
To work on a range of Programmes ensuring that certification, continued airworthiness and structural requirements are met.

Essential Requirements
Degree level or equivalent
Proven relevant experience in the following:
Although ideally candidates will have Landing gear experience this is not essential.
Our Client will also consider Candidates from the following industries:
Aerospace - Hydro-mechanical systems, Mechanical, Actuators, Engines etc.
Automotive - Mechanical, gear boxes, drive trains, suspensions.
Power - , nuclear energy, power stations etc.
Heavy mechanical - Hydraulic Actuators, Large Marine, Oil Rigs

Engineers who are, or who can become multi-faceted and be competent in a range of technical skills:

Structural mechanics -
Distribution of loads through a structure
Understands the effects stiffness
etc.

General Static stress analysis - Carry out hand stress analysis on various structural components:
Lugs
Highly Loaded Pins
Sockets
Pressurised Tubes
Plates
Flanges
Threads
Struts & Braces
Bearings
etc,

FE Analysis
Use PATRAN / NASTRAN / ABAQUS but it is not essential to have experience in these specific products..
Beam Modelling
Solid Modelling
Should be competent in element selection, good meshing practice, loading and boundary conditions etc.
Interpretation of results

Fatigue Analysis.
the following aspects are required
The fundamentals of fatigue analysis
The understanding of the influencing factors
The fundamental steps of fatigue life calculation.
Knowledge of safe life versus damage tolerant structures

Language skills:
English

Balancing safety, maturity, cost and performance (e.g. weight) of structural aspects of design solutions
Supporting the justification analysis for first flight & Certification against Airworthiness requirements.
Develop capability of tools and resource to meet business needs.
Ensure good working relationships with customers are developed and maintained
Support/lead ongoing Continuous Improvement initiatives to increase team and business efficiency

Responsible for structures acceptance and approval of landing gears and equipment (level 2 signatory)
Derive structures technical solutions to overcome engineering/certification challenges.
Support decisions on resource recruitment, allocation and requirements to support specific tasks.

Responsible for the delivery and standard/quality of work of engineers in LG and equipment supply base, including exposure to commercial aspects, negotiating needs & priorities

This position will provide the following opportunities:
Work as a part of multi-discipline teams engaged in developing new technologies, designs.and applications for use on Landing Gear or linked to Aircraft performance. Carry out structural analyses specialist assessments and reviews in support of landing gears and equipment.
In general, carry out structural analysis and checks on landing gear and equipment suppliers analyses to assess solutions for a range of tasks including design, certification, concessions, modifications, test, and in-service support.
Responsible for reviewing & commenting on supplier analysis and justification reports and delivering fully approved and authorized technical reports to programme leaders, Structures DCS, Airworthiness and Chief Engineers.
Technical Liaison with specialists in fatigue and damage tolerance, materials and processes, finite element analysis, and other a/c structural analysis disciplines to ensure structural integrity.
Support structural analysis aspects of supplier audits and delegated authority processes
