Network Engineer, VLAN, Cisco~
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The New York Programs Unit is seeking an experienced professional to support the Emergency Communications Transformation Program (ECTP2) as a Sr. Network Engineer, contingent upon City acceptance of the successful candidate. The Sr. Network Engineer will support the multi-agency New York City City-E911 Center Emergency Communications Transformation Program (ECTP) network engineering team. The successful candidate supports the team and works with the City and world class solution providers to design and implement a series of high availability/fault tolerant networks that will be used to support the City E911 Services to the Citizens of NYC. The position requires the candidate to interface with the customer and user communities to gather requirements, develop solutions, and integrate to customer systems. The Sr. Network Engineer will work as part of a small network engineering team reporting to the Network Engineering Team Lead and the Manager of Systems and Program Manager/PMO and be responsible for defining the system requirements and developing detailed system designs based on Cisco high-availability three-level hierarchical design methodology for PSAC2 and interconnection to PSAC1. Hours: 8am to 5pm
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
The following qualifications are required: 15 years of experience designing and implementing large scale communications networks. Strong analytical as well as verbal and written communications skills. Practical working knowledge of IP-based network designs and design methods. Practical working knowledge of programmatic skills, including scheduling and cost. Practical working understanding of resource scheduling, and cost management. The Engineer must be familiar with high availability switching and routing network designs and protocols, VLAN-based services for multiple applications, and network security requirements. The successful candidate must be comfortable preparing briefings, chairing meetings, preparing meeting documentation, preparing status reports, identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies. The following qualifications are desired: Previous experience in designing high availability networks for public safety organizations. Practical working knowledge of Public Safety voice/data network design. Solid understanding of public safety (Police/Fire/EMS) concepts of operations. Cisco certification (CCNA, CCDP, CCIE). Education Requirement: Bachelors degree in IT/Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines (additional years directly relatable experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.)
