An excellent opportunity has arisen working for a prestigious aerospace company based in Hampshire. The requirement is for a Weights Engineer to join the team.
Job Title - Senior/Lead Weight Engineer Vacancy
Reports to: - Design Manager / Operations Director - Structures
A vacancy has arisen in the Aircraft Design Office for a Senior/Lead Weight Engineer, duties will include:
- Monitoring and reporting of weight estimates for a variety of AC programmes
- Determining aircraft modification weight and centre of gravity impact
- Aircraft component weighing and the preparation of aircraft weighing reports
The Senior/Lead Weight Engineer is responsible for the timely and accurate estimation and preparation of all mass properties estimates and reports. He or she must have excellent organizational skills, be proficient in MS-Excel knowledge of CATIA V5 (mass analysis programme), and have experience with database management. The Weight Engineer may supervise a small team of weight engineers that direct reports, and is also Responsible for coordinating and quality checking of weight estimates conducted by other departments/Sub Contractors before acceptance into the weight estimate database.
Responsibilities:
Fully responsible for timely and accurate preparation of mass properties reports for all programs
Supervise a small staff of weight engineers
Check all mass properties estimates developed by weight engineering staff/sub contractors.
Data management of changes to the mass properties estimate. This includes several items such as:
o Historical logging of all changes incorporated into the working database or specific weight reports (such as drawing revisions, revision notices, etc), and the accurate and timely reporting of mass properties impacts from proposed design changes.
o Logging of all pending changes to the working database (such as drawing revisions, revision notices, updated Vendor Furnished Information, etc)
Active monitoring of the design of the aircraft for weight control practices
Active monitoring of the production of the aircraft for weight control practices. (weighings)
Preparation and presentation of alternative design and build materials, arrangement, and/or practices to control weight growth
Supervision of weight engineers/sub tiers to assist in meeting all of these responsibilities
Attend meetings with Client.
Supervise or assist in weighing of large assemblies when required
Responsible for weight management during define and execute stages of work. Manage the preparation, collection, documentation and control of project weight data. Coordinate weight related activities with client, vendors and internally amongst various disciplines. Perform quality checks with staff engineers and designers for weight tabulations/calculations. Attend meetings with Client.
Requirements:
Qualifications: Degree/HNC level in Structural/Aero/Mechanical Engineering. .
Knowledge of CATIA V5 mass analysis programme.
Excellent knowledge of MS Office EXCEL/ Word.
Prior assignment as an experienced weight engineer is necessary.
Experience
The suitable applicant will possess a engineering background in aircraft structure (or similar products / industry) probably in a design office environment and be familiar with one of the current 3D software packages and MS office.
