Job Description

Aeropeople are proud to be working in partnership with a leading manufacturer of Composite components.

Due to a period of accelerated growth they are seeking to appoint a Head of Design for their facility based in the South West.

Job Purpose

The Functional Site Representative is tasked to act as the communications conduit with respect to the site for the specified Engineering Function.

Knowledge / Experience

The Functional Site Representative should have experience of managing tasking within engineering projects. They should have demonstrated ability to coordinate the tasking, managing the budget and delivering to the schedule of single discipline tasks within the project environment. The Functional Site Representative should be familiar with the Company BMS regarding project control and reporting methods in order to appropriately manage their function.

Knowledge of the aerospace industry, including key customer operations will be essential and should be supplemented by core communication and customer interface skills.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance at the Engineering Functional (hands on) level to their engineering team and management of the technical programme tasks through the co-ordination of efforts across the engineering disciplines.
  • Provide both technical and process guidance to the team working in accordance with the company Aerospace business processes and demonstrate a proactive approach to continuous improvement and LEAN Enterprise within the function.
  • Contribute to the development of the technical capability and capacity, including participation in the personal development planning activities of the team.
  • Where appropriate represent the Engineering Function at Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, Design Visual Inspections and formal reviews with Customers and Certification Authorities such as EASA/FAA.
  • Monitor and maintain personal and company performance objectives. Address performance issues in a timely manner and encourage excellent performance in all aspects of the job.
  • Actively manage change within their tasking, ensuring that all deviation from specification in their area is recorded in the change register and cascaded to the engineers quickly and effectively.
  • Take site responsibility for all design issues related to existing, future or legacy platforms. To include, playing a key role in the establishing and maintaining of a Design Organisation Approval via the airworthiness authorities or customer base.
  • Manage and monitor the design engineering resource within the team to best support programme and operational requirements, via both internal and external relationships

Principal Interfaces

The Functional Site Representative is required to maintain regular interfaces at the Functional Site level and all levels of Engineering and Project Control to ensure technical programme requirements are achieved and approved in accordance with Customer/Company team budget and schedule requirements.  Typically these may include:

  • Site Head of Engineering and Global Functional leader.
  • Project Control staff.
  • Head of Finance/Commercial and staff.
  • Head of Operations.
  • Nominated partner and second tier supplier representatives.

The interactions with these teams should portray a positive image of the Company Engineering capability and the wider Company organisation. Issues should be dealt with promptly but rationally and without the sacrifice of programme integrity for the sake of customer expediency.

  

Qualifications

Engineering qualification or appropriate experience in Engineering Function.

Conditions and Characteristics

The role is key to establishing a cohesive Engineering Function and cascade appropriate information in both directions. 

The ideal candidate will thus have:

  • Enthusiasm and desire to succeed.
  • Previous hands on / functional Design experience
  • Strong technical knowledge with respect to the function
  • Good people-management, leadership and coaching skills.
  • Flexible approach to external commitments, including travel.
  • Good organisational skills (personal and inter-personnel).
